Fans responded well to the remix of his first solo effort, Momentum, so in the wake of Tobymac's Dove Award-winning sophomore album, Welcome to Diverse City, the former Toby McKeehan undoubtedly thought, "Why not?" Renovating->Diverse City is a lean but buoyant collection that never overstays its welcome, despite appearing just a little over a year after the original. Some of these remixes aren't tweaked very severely. Neither the "Shortwave Radio" version of "Burn for You" nor "Getaway Car" sound much different beyond their amplified rhythms. A more drastically reimagined "Burn for You" is available as a bonus track. However, Christopher Stevens and Brent Milligan ...

However, Christopher Stevens and Brent Milligan transform the anthemic guitar pop of "Gone" into a contemplative, gentle reverie with layered harmonies and a string section. "Slam" gets a makeover, too. The original was pretty overwrought, a too-obvious take on Saliva's secular world X-Games hit "Click Click Boom." But on Renovating->Diverse City it's not nearly as eager, drifting closer to Linkin Park with its plaintive piano loops and letting the raps in the middle breathe a little. Like Re: Mix Momentum, Renovating->Diverse City is almost exclusively for the Tobymac faithful. Despite the remixing and abbreviated track list, it's too close to the original to stand on its own. But for the devoted it's a reinforcement of that album's messages, and does offer a fresh look at a few of the songs.

    The greatest CD ever

Rumor has it that Toby Mac is a perfectionist, well when it comes to this new Remix album its absolutely TRUE! I love this CD, I bought it the day it came out and I encourage you to try it yourself, every song is even better than on the original "Welcome to Diverse City" although it was great as well. It has an entirely different sound than the original so the excuse you own it already won't work... ~Rachel

    This Album is AWESOME

This is the best re-mix album I've ever heard. The cutest song ever is Track 8. Even if you've never listened to TobyMac before, you need to buy this CD. Number 8 makes it all worthwhile. It's Toby's son. It is absolutely adorable!! The rest of the CD is great too. It's a great pick-me-up anytime!!

    amazing

Renovating Diverse City is an awesome experience through many different and 'diverse' music. Same songs as "Welcome To Diverse City", but with a very special twist. i very much enjoy listening to the Renovating Diverse City album. It's very 'funky' and definately makes you just wanna bounce! Personally, i think the tracks "Welcome to Diverse City" and "Hey Now" are amazingly good. They're so very fun. "inTRUding" is thee best Tru-dog song made, in my opinion. This CD's the bomb and i highly recommend this!

Tobymac has done it again!! I just got his CD and the music ROCKS!!! I've been a toby fan ever since he was in DC Talk. He has changed so much. In a good way of course. He's music is much better now. I loved all of his 3 CD's!!

    Best purchase of the year

I was listening to this in my car, and I found myself giving every track a 4 or 5 star rating on my iPod, which is a very rare thing. There are no 3 star songs on here. It is much much better than the Momentum remix. It is a truly refreshing album to listen too. It's definitely one of the highest rated albums in my iTunes library. If you like good Hip-Hop, this album is a solid purchase.

    Raising the bar!!

Once again TobyMac has shown that he is on the cutting edge of hip-hop in the genre of Christian music. Toby, with the help of his friends, have "thrown down the gauntlet". Let's hope and pray that other acts will take the challenge and help bring "respect" back to the Christian hip-hop scene.

    Greatest remix ever!

I’m a long time Toby Mac and DC Talk listener and when I first heard Toby Mac’s new CD Renovating Diverse city, I was blown away…it has everything I wanted to hear in a CD. From Jazz to Rap, and beats that just make you want to move. So for all of you thinking about buying Renovating Diverse City I highly recommend you doing so.

    He did it again!!

Awesome CD!! Toby mixed everything up, hip-hop, rap, latino, rock... It's great. It's like when you'd find a room full of poeple who wouldn't normally hang out b/c of the "differences", but when their all together in harmony its AWESOME!! Atmosphere is great, and Burning for you, both of them are great!! Even a little electronica! LOVE IT!!

    Best New Re:Mixes EVER

I was a bit skeptical when I bought this album b/c I am not a big fan of Re:Mixes in general. But I've really enjoyed TobyMac's other cds, so I thought I'd give it a try. Not only was the price affordable, you get way more than you pay for! With 10 songs from Welcome to Diverse City all remastered and re:mixed by some of the most awesome producers in the biz, and even 2 new songs-a new Tru-Dogg installment and a new little ditty sung by Paul Wright. I was very excited to hear that all of the re:mixed songs sound completely different from the originals. Whether it be the speed, rhythm, or lyrics to the song. It was very refreshing after listening to Welcome to Diverse City for a year. Great way to end the summer and begin a new school year. (even Tru-Dogg agrees)
