Overview

Jill Lewis is a top-notch investigative reporter in Washington D.C. Her fiancé, John, is an FBI agent. Neither can talk about what happens on the job. But both are dying to know.

When a high-profile senator is assassinated, Jill jumps at the chance to cover the story, soon digging up evidence of political scandal, intrigue, and deception. In the midst of what could be the story of her life, Jill's fiancé suddenly disappears. Where has John gone? Is he still alive? What has happened to him? Jill can only guess, but she has a sneaking suspicion that his mysterious disappearance has something to do with the headline-grabbing story she is investigating.

This action-packed suspense novel offers the perfect mix of politics, conspiracy, and a little bit of romance to create an intriguing page-turner that rivals Dee Henderson's best-selling O'Malley series.

The first couple pages seemed slow (probably because I didn't read the 1st book) but things changed quickly. I loved the characters and I couldn't put the book down! I, too, just HAD to find out what would happen next and who was really behind the murders. A great page-turner!

From cover to cover, this is a fast paced political thriller with a touch of romance to please the reader. I was up all night reading because I simply had to find out what was going to happen on the next page...would Jill become a murder victim herself? Oh, and that park scene still gives me the willies! The characters are well developed and the plotline pulls you right into the suspense. At times I got so nervous over what was going to happen, I had to set the book down for a little while. Well written, well developed. Loved it.

Washington Gazette political journalist Jill Lewis waits at the Capital building to meet with Senator Brown, who asked for her to see him. She thinks how frightened the Senator seemed when he called her late at night. However, before they meet, he apparently dies from a heart attack. Senator Tommy Harrison is going to replace him as the Minority Leader. --- Harrison believes his predecessor was murdered and so he asks Jill to use her media sources to investigate. Her efforts prove successful forcing an autopsy to be performed that revealed that traces of MST, a toxic substance found in the venom of a very poisonous snake, is in the blood of the deceased. That leads to Bio-Tech where experiments using the substance on brain tumors were being tested. Two other people with knowledge about MST are murdered Jill learns her ¿client¿ Senator Tommy Harrison has stock in Bio-Tech making her wonder if he could be the killer. --- The reporter quickly learns how politics and big business are the modern day double helix that leads to unchecked power and some who have it use it to break laws they were sworn to uphold. Jill courageously pursues the story though obviously aware that an insider wants her to back away. Her tenaciousness almost makes her the next victim, but also provides a fascinating and enthralling investigative political thriller for fans to enjoy. --- Harriet Klausner
