EDWARD J. RUPPELT (1923-1960) was the head of Project Blue Book during the Korean War, from 1951-1953. He served at the Air Technical Intelligence Center, where he took over Project Grudge, a formal investigation by the U.S. military with the goal of debunking extraterrestrial and UFO activity. Under Ruppelt's supervision, the project, later named Blue Book, experienced its most fruitful years, when investigations were properly conducted without judgment or disdain. Many UFO researchers hail him as a pioneer of UFO research and hero in the fight to earn respectability for the field.

Ruppelt was a man high up on the UFO chain however, his views may not be agreeable to everyone. No matter what your stance is on UFO's this book is a very good read. It teaches a lot of how they are looked at by the military. It also gives case by case analysis.

This is a good piece of work and the start of serious UFO documentation – must read! You may or may not agree with conclusions made, but as the start of the phenomenon, it is important. It demonstrates something I immediately noticed – the lack of drama in the older sightings that gives them an air of authenticity that PR-grabbing modern sightings lack. Blue Book used the first UFO “Filtering Device” on witnesses (a questionnaire) and thus got better data than many future efforts did.Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
