Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 4-8-- A book written with sparkle, humor, and warmth. It's the first day of school--middle school that is! Changing classes, lockers, P.E., eighth graders, a new high-tech building are among the challenges, and new sixth-graders Eddie Mott, Pickles Johnson, Salem Brownhill, and Sunny Wyler are filled with dread and anticipation. Armed with chutzpah, determination, and the support of a gutsy and lovable principal, they find their way through those first terrible, traumatic, memorable weeks of the fall term. Readers will recognize themselves as these feisty characters meet the challenges and find themselves actually looking forward to the next day of school. Positive and upbeat, this is a chuckle a chapter. --Pamela K. Bomboy, Chesterfield County Public Schools, VA

    Report to the Principal's Office

This is a great way to start the school year, especially if you teach sixth grade! A few chapters in the middle are a little 'boring' and seeem a little 'drug-out,' but overall it's a great book to get kids going! It has some humerous sections and a few life lessons taught along the way! I read this at the beginning of the school year, and the students really seemed to enjoy it! My students LOVE Jerry Spinelli!

I want to read them all

The book is called Report to the Principal¿s Office by Jerry Spinelli. The story is about four kids going to a new school called Plumstead Middle School. Pickle Johnson is one of the kids. His real name is Dennis Johnson. He was sent to the principal¿s office because he had a skateboard in school. The principal, Mr. Brimlow invited Pickles to have lunch with him. Eddie is another one of the kids. He gets thrown like a football by eighth graders while on the bus. He gets hijacked while on the bus with the principal and Sunny. She is the girl he likes. She is also one of the new kids. Sunny flicks a fake booger and it makes Eddie fall back almost out of his chairs. She was sent to the principal¿s office. She was invited to lunch with the Principal. Salem is the last one of the kids. She is a writer. She has a writer scarf she puts it around her head. A hamster named Humphrey got in the sloppy joe and it stepped on Sunny¿s shirt during lunch time. I won¿t tell you any more you would have to figure out the rest. PS. The next two books in the series are called Who Ran My Underwear Up the Flagpole that is book #2 and Do the Funky Pickle is book #3

    the best book ever

Report to the Principal¿s Office is the book we read in reading group by Jerry Spinelli. The four characters in this book are Sunny, Eddie, Salem, and Pickles. They are new at this new school. It¿s called Plumstead Middle School. They have lunch with the principal and decide about the school mascot. Sunny would not wash her hair because her best friend Hillary goes to a different school than she does. She won¿t change her clothes or take a shower because she wants to get expelled. The music teacher heard Pickles playing taps so he had the whole school play in a band to announce the school mascot. Will Eddie, Sunny, Pickles, and Salem become friends at the end? Will Sunny take a shower? Read the book and find out.

    It was awsome

This book is called Report to the Principal¿s Office by Jerry Spinelli. Eddie, Sunny, Salem and Pickles go to a new school called Plumstead Middle School. Then Eddie, Salem and the principal are hijacked on the bus. After they get back, the principal invites Eddie and Salem to lunch. Then Pickles egged on the principle to ride the Pickle board. After the principle invites Pickles to lunch. Then he ends up inviting Sunny to lunch for flinging a pretend boogie at Eddie. Before lunch, four of the eighth graders had a hamster and let it go. Salem and Eddie got the hamster. During the lunch with the principle the hamster got sloppy joe on Sunny¿s DEATH TO MUSHROOMS t-shirt. At the end they find the hamster in the freezer. Will Eddie, Salem, Sunny and Pickles become friends? How did the hamster get there? Read the book and find out what happened to them!

    Good Book

In Jerry Spinelli¿s story Report to the Principals¿ Office, four kids were invited to lunch with the principal. Eddie is a kid who is afraid of the eighth graders. Sunny and her friend Hilary are not washing their hair because they want to get expelled from their school so they will be together in the same school .Salem is a writer that is writing a story about a boy that is experiencing his first year in middle school. Pickles is a boy that rides his skateboard around school and gets into trouble for it. Salem saw a hamster being chased by eighth graders. She put her bag down so the hamster could run into it. The principal put the hamster in a cage in front of his office. They had a concert coming up and all of the kids in the school were going to play an instrument. But Sunny did not want to play an instrument. At the end something happens to the hamster but I can not tell you. Will Sunny play in the band? Read the book and see what will happens.

    Hard To Follow

The book, Report to the Principals Office, was verry hard to understand! The last few chapters were a waste of time and it seemed like the author was trying to drag out the book to make it longer!

    Awesome! Great First Read!

I loved this book. It was the first chapter book I ever read. It's a great book for kids with low vocabulary skills. I felt Sunny's pain. I loved the book so much.
