Fourteen chapters, written by persons whom psychologist Mandler (pictured) has influenced as a colleague/mentor, represent a tribute to her that was held in 2000 in tandem with an International Symposium on Infant Studies. Following her husband's introduction to Mandler's background and achievements in the field of cognitive development mainly at the U. of California, San Diego, the other contributors extend/challenge her ideas including: the concept of developing knowledge being embedded in events, the distinction between conceptual and perceptual representations, and the elicited imitation technique of studying recall in young children.
