warm, heartbreaking, gut wrenching, sympathetic, and more..........

The best book available on this subject..............champions survivors and does not apologize. Exposes sexual abuse as society's greatest secret and does not apologize. I do not what it is about this book, but it is extremely moving and extremely powerful and everyone should get a copy. Has always been better than the Courage to Heal, especially now that Heal's 4th edition has taken to silencing survivors by promoting forgiveness. Renee is slated for some more conferences and books and that's good, because we really need [her]/them. This book has survived the false memory movement and the FMSF's attempts to undermine Renee's credibility as a worthy professional. Good for you, Dr. Fredrickson, and Kudos!:)!

Warm and needed but also potentially misleading in certain places

Renee Fredrickson's book radiates with the warmth and unconditional positive regard that all survivors of childhood sexual abuse need if they are to reach optimal recovery. Renee's intentions clearly come from her heart and mind. This is a rare combination especially in the age of the false memory monster. Some of Dr. Fredrickson's language concerns me, however. She often utilizes closed semantics such as 'always' or 'never' when trying to stake her claim. Such language may cause a survivor to feel guilty or boxed in if he or she chooses not to follow a suggestion outlined in the book. Secondly this seemingly poor choice of words almost garantees that her interesting and effective recovery strategies will dismissed as utter quackery. I believe Fredrickson to be a much better therapist than this book indicates. Perhaps next time she will not write her knowledge as if she is in some kind of terrible hurry. I recommend this book to survivors only if the feel they can accept its flaws as well as its ingenuous. Likewise, I recommend this book only to those who feel they have already begun to process their sexually abusive experiences.

    One who's been there

This is a great book to help understand why after so many years I have nightmares, anxiety, depression and more. The people who wrote that this repression is concocted should at least sit down with some of us that have been there. Don't judge what you don't know. I now don't feel so isolated and have hope for recovery. Thanks Dr. Frederickson.

    A survivor's point of view

This book has been a help to over 100 people with whom I have come in contact. Although every book written has it's flaws, this book has opened the hearts and minds of both victims and those trying to understand repressed memeories. It has saved several marriages and stopped a number of suicides. I have presented this book to my friends and family and anyone that has needed a place to start. I am grateful to the author and appreciate the knowledge shared.
