Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
This book is a simple introduction to the characteristics of reptiles in general and of select species. This book is intended for easy and juvenile sections of libraries and/or for the lower elementary grades. It will also serve as a part of the library of an interested child who desires information about reptiles. The photographs are great for young children because of the different reptiles shown. The text size is large and well spaced for the beginning reader. The use of chapters organizes the material for easy absorption of information. The chapters include Reptiles, Types of Reptiles, Eating Habits, Young Reptiles, Pet Turtles, Goannas, American Alligators and Endangered Leatherneck Turtles. There is a good Animal Classification chart in the back that would have been better placed at the beginning of the book. There is a question with an answer about what the reader has learned and a glossary to explain word meanings. An Index is included. This book in "The Animal Kingdom" series is one of six titles to introduce the young reader to the classification of animals in the animal kingdom—Amphibians, Arthropods, Birds, Fish, Mammals and Reptiles. The series aims to inform readers about each animal group and its main identifying features, and to read about wild, domestic and endangered animals from each group. 2002, Chelsea Clubhouse/Chelsea House Publishers,

K picked this book up from school. Full of a lot of information

K picked this book up from school.
Full of a lot of information about reptiles. Where they live and don't live. What they eat. What kind of reptiles most keep as pets. The pictures are done beautiful to where you are not deterred from the book. I learned a bit more about reptiles that I did not know before. Also it is very easy to read and understand.
K really enjoyed all the fun facts, and for the facts there were left out he was able to fill me in on it.
Great book for those that love to learn about reptiles, and great to have in the classroom just for reading.
