What People are saying about this

Gerald Stern
“The Republic of Burma Shave is masterful. It is partly Mark Twain, partly Henry Miller. It is ferocious, tender, original.”
Patricia Hampl
“With his captivating The Republic of Burma Shave, Richard Katrovas has joined his outlaw voice to the great tradition of on-the-road stories that empower the best in American autobiography. It is impossible not to be gripped by this compelling coming-of-age testimony of a life that, most improbably, turns out to be the making of a poet. This is a fierce, wickedly funny, unguarded and utterly engaging memoir.”
Valerie Martin
“The Republic of Burma Shave is an addictive, guilty pleasure, like letting the bird watching binoculars slip over to the neighbor’s window. Not since Jean Jacques Rousseau’s alarming Confessions have I seen a big guy own up to seriously bad behavior with such giddy élan. Richard Katrovas is, as always, observant, outrageous, and completely original.”
