Editorial Reviews

KLIATT
In a sturdy, handsome book, Miller has anthologized 19 stories that will rivet readers to their seats and have them looking for more. Since the stories are excerpted from classics or best-selling books, readers will be able to find more. Some of the works with sections contained in this anthology are Junger's The Perfect Storm, St. Exupery's Wind, Sand and Stars, Markham's West with the Night, and even Grahame's Wind in the Willows. Other narratives, perhaps less well known, tell of rafts adrift at sea, avalanche, and ice storms. We journey to the Arctic, the Rockies, Everest, the Caribbean, and the Alps. These are armchair adventures at their most thrilling, telling stories of suffering and pain, courage and determination, about humans struggling against nature and their own limitations. The varying style (and length) of each story offers something for any reader.
