Rescue Vehicles

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Julia Beiker
In this book, the colorful photographs and detailed illustrations show young readers the variety of new and old vehicles used to rescue people from everything like a fire truck to a submarine rescue vehicle. They even get to see aerial firefighting and search and rescue up close and personal which makes this a more realistic version of how this vehicles work. Daniel and Alex use less complex sentence length to make the description and possible hard to understand information easy to read. The breakdown of several smaller paragraphs on each page gives the reader an opportunity to take a break between facts. As a teacher, I did not feel that they addressed the vocabulary in a way that benefitted the reader. In the back of the book, a glossary addresses a few words that are not clearly boldfaced in the context of the writing, and there may be words that need more explanation as well. I also wonder if they could not have made a more complete index in the back of the book. The complete breakdown of several of the vehicles helps the reader to understand how they are used to save victims of a tragedy. This book is part of the "Machines Close-Up" series.
