The idea of combining methods and stats as Jackson is compelling enough that I used the text in a year-long stats and methods course. Unfortunately, the text has an abundance of errors, some egregious ones, that makes me wonder how they got to the fourth edition. For example, the formula for Pearson's r on p. 162 is wrong. Answers given for end of chapter exercises are sometimes incorrect. The topic is challenging enough for social science students without imposing on them avoidable complications arising from poor editing.
I contacted the publisher twice but only got a reply from my sales rep. No one on the editing staff followed through to correct the errors. I am looking for a new text.

Meet the Author
Sherri L. Jackson is professor of psychology at Jacksonville University (JU), where she has taught since 1988. At JU, she has won Excellence in Scholarship (2003), University Service (2004), and Teaching (2009) awards; the university-wide Professor of the Year Award in 2004; the Woman of the Year Award in 2005; and the Institutional Excellence Award in 2007. She received her M.S. and Ph.D. in cognitive/experimental psychology from the University of Florida. Her research interests include human reasoning and the teaching of psychology, and she has published numerous articles in both areas. In 1997, she received a research grant from the Office of Teaching Resources in Psychology (APA Division 2) to develop A Compendium of Introductory Psychology Textbooks 1997-2000. She is also the author of RESEARCH METHODS AND STATISTICS: A CRITICAL THINKING APPROACH, 4th Edition Wadsworth/Cengage, 2012) and RESEARCH METHODS: A MODULAR APPROACH, 2nd Edition (Wadsworth/Cengage, 2011).
