Read an Excerpt

After a minute of silence and another robotic direction, Shelby’s small hand solidly landed on Willa’s mid-thigh. She nearly pumped the brakes she was so shocked. An electric current of arousal sparked through her jeans, and Willa silently prayed Shelby wouldn’t squeeze with her hand otherwise she would be lost. She should pull the car over so they could have a nice long talk about how her mind was a lot slower than her mouth and her advances weren’t really what they seemed.

Even though that was all horseshit.

‘I didn’t say I wanted to be in the hot tub alone, did I?’ Shelby quietly asked the question that didn’t need an answer.

Willa had to swallow twice, and still no sassy hotshot answer tumbled off her tongue. Lost for words was a mythical state no girl or woman had ever been known to reduce her to. She turned the wheel to the left, moving onto the tiny trail that ran right up to their cabin, and all the while her mind was wrapped around Shelby’s little thumb – and the smooth, tight circles she was making along Willa’s leg. This was too rich. Was she so lame she couldn’t even react?

Normally, this scenario would have at least involved a subtle come-on or a really good comeback. Or, damn, she could even choose to do the right thing and tell this willowy wisp of a shell to go shove it because no way should two strangers with this many issues get hide nor hair of each other. That would have been the right thing to do. At least, that’s what she would have done in the real world.

But this was vacation – and Vacation Willa wanted to explore some infinite possibilities now that she knew her partner was willing and able. Well, willing at least. Maybe they could learn to work around Shelby’s more tender parts.

Look at you getting all ahead of yourself, her inner voice taunted. What happened to distance, space, and using her for the money? This used to be simple. How is this not going to complicate your vacation?

God, Willa wanted to tell her inner voice to go straight to Hell in a handcartand she’d even help push. She eased the truck into park and unsnapped her seatbelt. Never one to back down from pretty much anything, Willa gave Shelby a long, serious look. A weight and measure. If she was serious that was great, but now was not the time to dick around with these kinds of things.

Some people came on vacations to have flings and meet people. But Willa’s ideal getaway hadn’t included the love package – or much of anything aside from a few good books and lots of solid downtime. Now Shelby was planning to change all that on her invitation. An invitation she hadn’t quite meant to make, had even maybe done so jokingly. Too late now. They were where they were and the blazing heat slowly stoking Shelby’s moss green stare lit up all of Willow’s erogenous zones.

‘I don’t think we’re going to make it to the hot tub,’ Shelby remarked with a half-smirk.

‘Damn straight.’

As if on the count of “go”, both women launched at each other – with Shelby caught in her seatbelt and hindered by a bum arm. Nevertheless, their lips brushed and Willa couldn’t keep her hands to herself any longer, twining her fingers through Shelby’s luscious hair and taking from the woman’s mouth until her lungs burnt because she was hesitant to stop touching her.

Despite her handicap, Shelby proved an equal match. Her tongue slipped across Willa’s lips with a probing demand to be granted an all-access pass and Willa opened on a smile. Polite girl at home, tough cookie in the sack. It’d be a lie to ignore that turn-on. Willa eased her other hand down past Shelby’s collarbone with her heart in her throat, waiting to get slapped.

When Shelby gave a low groan of approval, all but placing Willa’s palm on her breast, Willa had to take a moment of reflection that lasted all of ten seconds and included several swear words.

‘Don’t freeze up on me now,’ Shelby ordered mid-lip lock, deepening their kiss until Willa’s nipple’s hardened at the advance.

This little thing wasn’t screwing around, and clearly it was time she get with the programme. With the dashboard between them, Willa still managed to navigate enough space to shimmy her hand up her lover’s top and curve her palm to the supple skin of Shelby’s breast with a hiss of delight.

‘God, you’re fantastic,’ Willa groaned into her mouth, brushing her thumb against her lover’s tight nipple.

‘Shut up.’

Shelby arched into the movement with a shiver and caught Willa’s bottom lip between her teeth, unleashing a sharp sting that Willa couldn’t help but like. Pain had never really been her bag before but a little voice inside told her that if Shelby needed to be on top to have a good time and overcome a crazy disaster she’d gladly act as her test subject. It would be good practice in humility – something her superior always said she lacked in yearly reviews.

Shelby abruptly drew away, only inches from Willa’s shocked, bruised lips.

‘I don’t know what you’re thinking of right now. But if it’s not about pleasuring me then you’re highly remiss in your duties as caretaker. I demand satisfaction for my pain. I’m going to take and take and take until you have nothing left to give me. Now kindly remove your hand from my flesh and get us out of this truck into a more comfortable place to fool around.’

Years of taking orders – often resulting in life or death – kicked into high gear and Willa didn’t question the other woman until she was halfway around the other side of the truck.
