Library JournalBelieving that "knowledge is power," the authors, both editors of Visible Ink Press, compiled this hefty "handbook of options." Most pages have a dual but complementary personality. One column is a browsable anthology of essays, stories, poetry, statistics, and photography; the other, a directory of organizations, videos, publications, consultants, libraries, programs, and other resources. Fifteen chapters arranged alphabetically from aging to youth cover women's personal and social issues from a feminist perspective. So many topics are included that none is comprehensive, but each is an excellent pathfinder. Because of the work's Janus-faced nature, there is really no comparable reference source. Well recommended for women's studies, self-help, and general collections.-Michelynn McKnight, Norman Regional Hosp. Lib., Okla.

Arranged by subject and comprised primarily of hundreds of women's organizations, you'll also find listings of women's periodicals, books, educational videos and events– all briefly annotated. Although a subject index would have also been helpful, there is an exhaustive amount of information here to meet a variety of needs.
