The third edition of this book provides new material on sleep disordered breathing, the newer methods of staging of lung cancer, interstitial lung diseases and infections all of which have developed in importance since the last edition of the book. The traditional areas of respiratory medicine remain strongly represented and the new edition contains many new radiological illustrations. The book contains integrated self-test questions, illustrations and detailed explanations. It is designed to educate as well as give answers to problems. The cases appear in random order and at varying levels of difficulty, just as patients present in practice. The Colour Review will appeal to a wide readership, ranging from senior medical students and post-registration trainees in internal medicine, to pulmonologists in training and practice, for examination revision and continuing education.

Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Description: This is the third edition of a well-illustrated self-study book with a wealth of clinical material on pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine. The question and answer format is well designed to be a challenging experience for readers. The new topics in sleep medicine and the newly added clinical material and questions in critical care are excellent. The book fits well in white coat pockets and is an excellent resource for consultants in the pulmonary and critical care unit to help in the discussion of cases.
Purpose: This clinically oriented book is well designed to help clinicians and trainees in pulmonary medicine. It will attract readers at all levels and practically everyone who reads it will come away with key clinical points that will help them in practice.
Audience: Specialists in pulmonary and critical care and internal medicine, nurses, respiratory therapists, and anyone who's actively involved in taking care of patients with pulmonary disorders are the intended audience. Residents and fellows preparing for examination will find this clinical format very useful.
Assessment: This book has a wealth of clinical material with excellent background on medical history and physical examination findings. The images are superb and include supporting illustrations, graphs, and pulmonary function data that will serve as excellent review material. The questions and clinical contents are challenging; indeed readers will find the book full of suspense as they try to assure themselves of their knowledge. Reading this book may remind readers of patients with challenging cases they have treated in the past.
From the Publisher

[The] illustrations are, as the title suggests, the highlight of the book. The care that the authors took in selecting radiographs and images is evident. The graphs and diagrams are simple and easy to understand. The questions are diverse... Some questions require simple recognition of a physical examination finding and a one-word answer. Others are open-ended and require thought and organization prior to answering. This diversity is both interesting and realistic, given that in clinical medicine one is often faced with a similar potpurri of problems when managing a patient. The answers are concisely stated and easy to follow. ...One of the advantages of this book is that it can be fit into the small openings of a busy professional's schedule. The book is compact and light. Each question is independent of the next. The answers do not take long to read. The illustrations are fun and interesting. ...A fun, educational text...--Respiratory Care, June 2006Praise for the first edition:MRCP candidates will undoubtedly find this a useful aid to revision and it provides an entertaining collection of vignettes for the established clinician. Thoroughly recommended.--Journal of the Royal Naval Medical Service
