About the Author

Julia Cook, a former school counselor and teacher, has written many books on behavior and health for children. "What's Bugging You is useful and has appeal for students. Ping Pong Positive!!! is good for classroom teachers. As a counselor, I guess this is something we could do jointly together but is better suited for the classroom. The same is true for Are You Sleeping? Keeping a log and turning it in sounds difficult for the ones who need more sleep the most to do since probably an adult needs to be sure they turn it in and students without much adult supervision are apt to stay up playing video games more and getting less sleep but may not turn these in. Everyone enjoys painting rocks, so the happy reminder rock is good. Basemen or balcony attitudes would best be done by parents for fear of labelling people. Step it up and Build the Staircase would best be done with access to technology to look at training involved and have guidance as to the correct websites for this information.


I really think Why Does Noodle Need to would better be served by Get Tos instead, going off of the Switching Need Tos into I Did Its. Otherwise, students are physically manipulating negative messages instead of positive messages. I like My responsibility Kit. I love I Had a Hand in That and Don't Blame Me. I really like the visuals of Rocks, Pebbles and Sand.I think a visual would be helpful to go with Project Tsunami Prevention - maybe a picture of dams and sandbags and labelling them as actions to be done.


I think the Sundae Fun Day would be great (albeit messy). It is hard to believe that people would be honest in interviewing about cheating in Why Did You Do It? unless it were a small group in which trust has been built. Cheating Stars needs a visual - maybe a falling star and pictures of who they are talking about. Cheaters Detours needs to give us an example to save us time. How Do you Feel is good and could be a flipgrid or One Note adaption since you can graph it. The Gum Drop-drop is great and I can't wait to try it. I wish Julia Cook would put more games into her activity guides. Connect the dots will be enjoyable.The Kids Rule is something good for the beginning of the year and will go well with Second Step values lessons for community building in middle school." - Deborah Grunloh
