Welche Bedeutung haben sie? Welche Funktion spielen sie innerhalb unserer Gesellschaft? Sind sie an bestimmte historische Ereignisse geknüpft?
Die seit 1950er Jahren arbeitende begriffsgeschichtliche Forschung beschäftigt sich eben mit den oben genannten Fragen. Sie analysiert, welche Erfahrungen und Sachverhalte sich in einem Begriff verbergen und welche Bedeutung und Funktion jenem zu unterschiedlicher Zeit zukamen und noch immer zukommen.
In dieser Arbeit geht es um die beiden politisch geprägten Begriffe ‚Legitimität' und ‚Restauration', um ihren Inhalt, ihre Funktion und ihre Bedeutung.
Im Fazit wird darüber hinaus noch auf die Problematik abstrakter politischer Begriffe in der Geschichtswissenschaft eingegangen. Wie lassen sich politische Begriffe historisch verwenden? Sind abstrakte Begriffe in der Geschichtswissenschaft überhaupt möglich? Lassen sich historische Ereignisse ‚schablonisieren'?
