Overview

Grace Beeson is a young woman who wakes up and finds herself alone on the Kansas prairie. Injured and suffering from amnesia, the frightened woman is rescued by a handsome horse rancher, Cole Matthews, who offers to take Grace to a nearby town for medical assistance, with the hopes of finding her family.

Ms. Millie, owner of the Boarding House, takes Grace under her wing and nurses her back to health. As time passes, with no word of who she is or where she came from, Grace finds her heartstrings being tugged by the handsome rancher, as well as a wealthy businessman who is staying in the same boarding house.

Grace quickly learns to care for the people of Garden City. Once strangers, now like family, a substitute for the family she longs to remember.

A mysterious diary is discovered not far from where Grace had been rescued. As she reads the heartbreaking details from the weathered pages, she realizes that the unfamiliar book is hers. The truth is unmistakable. In her own hand, she reads that she is searching for her wayward husband.

Adding to her dilemma, she suspects that she is in the family way. The town doctor confirms her suspicions. What will she do?

One day, she receives a wire. Her husband is coming for her. Her newfound friends are by her side as she greets her husband, a man she does not recognize. Unbeknownst to her, the man's real name is Luke, a scout from the wagon train on which Grace was traveling.

Luke plans a daring scheme-to pose as Grace's husband. As Grace waits in anticipation of her husband's arrival, she learns that Cole must suddenly leave on business. Grace's heart aches. Now she faces so much uncertainty, a future looming before her with a husband she cannot remember.

Upon meeting Grace's husband, her new friends feel uneasy. Something just does not seem right. Before Cole departs, he pleads with Grace not to leave town until he returns.

As weeks pass, Grace's friends sense that she is fearful of Clayton. Plus, she learns that within her womb is not one baby, but two. Her friends and doctor encourage her to stay until the babies are born. Clayton reluctantly agrees.

Cole returns from his travels months later only to find Luke in a fit of rage as Grace cowers in the corner of her bedroom in fear. Cole's presence quickly defuses the situation. As Clayton angrily leaves, Cole's distain for the stranger shifts to suspicion.

After losing at a rather heated card game, Clayton's anger flares at those seated around the table. He stumbles back to the boarding house and sneaks undetected into Grace's room. The hard drink has intensified his anger as he devises a plan.

Word quickly spreads throughout the surrounding towns. Grace is gone- kidnapped by the man who claims to be her husband. However, the authorities do nothing-they claim she is his wife. Cole is enraged. Battling the snow that quickly becomes a blizzard, he pursues Luke and Grace. God is with him as he travels in the trying days ahead.

Weeks later Cole finds Grace in an old run-down shack. Clearly, her health is not good. Even in her malnourished state, she feels led to care and witness to her wounded captors.

With much heartache, Cole must tell Grace of what he learned during his travels-that her real husband was already dead.

The town's people greet them warmly in a joyous celebration. It is a Christmas miracle!

Grace spies Cole embracing an ex-sweetheart. Tears blur her vision as she runs from the scene. Cole swiftly follows her to explain what she has just witnessed, but talking will have to wait as she feels the first pains of labor.

The deliveries were difficult and she had lost a lot of blood. The prognosis was not good.

Finally, penetrating through the shadow of death, she hears those sweet words she has been longing to hear. Cole loves her! His declaration of love not only pulls her from the brink of death, but also gives her hope and a future. God has truly answered her prayers

    Good book

I agree with the first two reviews. This was an inspirational book. However, at times it was a little slow. With that said, I would still recommend this book.
