For people with a work history that could land them in hot water, composing a strong rsum is essential. Marcus (The Complete Job Interview Handbook, HarperCollins, 1994. 3d ed.) demonstrates rsum-writing methods that will smooth over those rough areas of employment history. Targeting eight concerns such as spotty work history, decreasing responsibility, and job hopping, he provides before and after examples that demonstrate how rsums can emphasize skills rather than problems. There is also a section on special tips, such as when to use an untraditional approach, when to include personal information, and whether to emphasize past employers or titles. For people who wish to see their concerns directly addressed with targeted examples, this would be a good choice, but Marcus's general rsum prescription is neither new nor unique. An optional choice.-Joshua Cohen, Mid-Hudson Lib. System, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
