Overview

After nearly losing his life in Antigua during a mission that went terribly wrong, Gideon trusts no one. But when a former lover, a grifter named Arizona, resurfaces in need of his skills, she reminds him he is indebted to a man who had once saved his life: the son of the legendary con man Scamz. Gideon is forced to take on an assignment that will lead him to Argentina in pursuit of a briefcase containing one part of a larger puzzle. The “package” contains material that another group of assassins—the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse—will kill for to obtain and protect. One of the leaders of the Four Horsemen has a connection to Gideon of which neither man is aware—a connection that will be exposed when they meet face-to-face and gun-to-gun. Each member of the Four Horsemen is a world-class killer, each with a dark and dangerous past, and nothing will stop that team of renegades from completing their mission. But will a cunning woman be their undoing?

In this world of killers, con men, and manipulative women, Gideon struggles to keep promises and uncover information about his past. He soon finds himself at the center of the ultimate double cross and is forced to do what he must in order to protect himself and those closest to him. Set amid the exotic and vibrant streets of Miami and Buenos Aires, Resurrecting Midnight is a seductive, pulse-pounding thriller.

Meet the Author

Eric Jerome Dickey
Eric Jerome Dickey
Back in 1996, former software engineer writer Eric Jerome Dickey quit his day job as a substitute teacher after the success of his first novel, Sister, Sister. With the sexy, savvy flow of African-American-themed bestsellers that followed, it's pretty safe to say Dickey won't have to go back to the classroom.

Biography

Eric Jerome Dickey was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and attended the University of Memphis (the former Memphis State), where he pledged Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and earned a degree in computer system technology. In 1983, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in engineering.

After landing a job in the aerospace industry working as a software developer, Dickey's artistic talents surfaced, inspiring him to become an actor and a stand-up comedian. He soon began working the local and national comedy circuit. In the early 1990s the aerospace industry took a downward turn and Dickey found himself "downsized," but took this as an opportunity to embark on a writing career.

Having written several scripts for his personal comedy act, Dickey started writing poetry and short stories. He joined the IBWA (International Black Writers and Artists), participated in their development workshops, and became a recipient of the IBWA SEED Scholarship to attend UCLA's creative writing classes. In 1994 his first published short story, "Thirteen," appeared in the IBWA's River Crossing, Voices of the Diaspora: An Anthology of the International Black Experience. A second short story, "Days Gone By," was published in the magazine A Place to Enter.

With those successes behind him, Dickey decided to fine-tune some of his earlier work and developed a screenplay called Cappuccino. Cappuccino was directed and produced by Craig Ross Jr. and appeared in coffeehouses around the Los Angeles area. In February 1998, Cappuccino made its local debut during the Pan African Film Festival at the Magic Johnson Theater in Los Angeles and is currently on the film festival circuit.

Dickey's book-signing tours for Sister, Sister, Friends and Lovers, and Milk in My Coffee took him coast to coast and helped propel these novels to No. 1 on the Blackboard bestsellers List. His books have been featured in many publications, including Essence magazine and USA Today, and have appeared on the bestseller lists of The Los Angeles Times, Blackboard, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times. Dickey has appeared as a guest on many television shows, including BET's Our Voices and CNN's Sunday Morning Live.

    Gideon Rocks.

.and so does Eric Jerome Dickey! Like all the novels in the Gideon series (Sleeping With Strangers, Waking With Enemies, Dying for Revenge), Dickey's latest is a first-rate story; an explosive, nerve-tingling page-turner.

"Resurrecting Midnight" follows everyone's favorite assassin-for-hire, Gideon. His latest assignment, a result of a debt that has to be paid, takes him to South America to obtain and secure a package. A package that is wanted by many. A package that many will kill for. A package that many will die for. A package that is now in the possession of The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, a team of ruthless mercenaries led by an assassin simply known as The Beast.

Also, Gideon is still dealing with X, Y, Z, a grifter named Arizona and a ghost from his past.

From the beginning, readers are pulled in to a world of death and darkness. "Resurrecting Midnight" has all the right ingredients. With a blockbuster plot and wonderful writing, this story speeds along like a runaway freight train, not once struggling to entertain. Intriguing and unsavory characters, methodical pacing from chapter to chapter (or capitulo a capitulo), dangerous secrets and exotic locations add to the intensity. Full of surprises, suspense, thrills and action, "Resurrecting Midnight" is a must read.

Dickey is at the top of his game and clearly puts on display his talent. Somebody, please, give this man a star on the literary walk of fame!

    EJD does it again!!!!!

Wow! Gideon is back. If you thought Antigua was something, wait until you read this book which takes place in Argentina. Gideon fights some serious people. Some old friends come back as well. The story is fast, gritty and will leave you turning the pages and not wanting the book to end.

I am such a fan of Gideon. It was nice to learn more about his personal life. I decided that the series should be made into a movie. Yes I emailed Mr. Dickey. Idris Elba, Chiwetel Ejiofor or Don Cheadle would do Gideon proud. I need another Gideon book. Enjoy the ride.

I've been hooked since the first installment of the series...maybe I'm affected.

I began reading the first of the Gideon about 5 months into this year. When I read the first page of SWS I thought the book would be a slow read. When I completed the first chapter I was hooked. I couldn't believe that I had this book sitting on my bookshelf all this time and had not thought to read it. In reading the acknowledgements, I was thrilled to discover that I had not only read the series from the beginning, but that there was a part two. I began my search for part two and found that there was a part 3, which led me to discover that there was a part 4, Resurrecting Midnight, and I nearly lost my mind at the thought of following the trials and tribulations of a character I was so enamored, so fascinated with. When I find a novel as captivating as the Gideon series, I tend to place myself into the story. As with the parts 1-3 I did the same with part 4. Just like the other 3 I was caught up and excited by the introduction of the new characters, mainly the unknown of what their roles would be in the novel. I knew what this meant for Gideon and was happy to go along for the journey. I must say that this part of the series had its moments that had me concerned with its overall effect on the thrilling feeling I have felt with the other novels in the series, but continued on. I was a bit puzzled by some parts, but those parts made me believe that there were going to be perhaps another part. Which, I will gladly read.

    Never a fan until Gideon!

EJD was never on my top list of authors. I have read several of his earlier works and I would liken him to Danielle Steele. When I began the series I could not believe it was the same author! The writing style was so different and totally unpredictable! EJD made a believer out of me. I hope he never returns to his former style.

    Da Bomb!

This book was so freaking good! When I first started reading this series I thought it couldn't get better and it has improved with every book written. I cannot wait until the next one comes out. EJD you have outdone yourself once again. I agree this needs to be a movie and I can picture Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson playing the lead.

    Love this book

I absolutely love this series. I wish they would make it into a movie, and I have to agree with a previous post...Idris Alba would be a great Gideon. Granted, we may have to lose a little in the sex scene areas to make it in the theater. Does anyone know if or when the next Gideon book will be released, I can't get enough.

LOVED IT!! KEEP EM COMING EJD!

This book is great, just like the others I'm left with wanting more. Sleeping With Strangers is the first in the Gideon series, but if you want more background on Arizona, Sierra, and Big Scamz read Thieves' Paradise. It has a different main character, but it takes you into the world of con artists. My bookclub started with that book first which helped understand the two sisters relationship, and why Gideon was once hired to kill Sierra.
