Retarder [Explicit Lyrics]

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Jon Wiederhorn
In their formative days, the members of the Unband were bona fide garage punks who embraced anarchy and nonconformity. But they also had an affinity for metal bands like Motorhead and Guns N' Roses as well as a love for classic hard rockers such as Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, and even Deep Purple. As a result, the Unband's music is a hodgepodge of somewhat contradictory styles. Yet as different as the keyboard chimes of "The Jilt" are from the blowtorch riffage of "Too Much Is Never Enough" and the self-indulgent guitar solos of "Jeez Louise," the Unband's music is united by a common cause -- the need to kick ass, which they pull off as effectively as a schoolyard bully ...

Yet as different as the keyboard chimes of "The Jilt" are from the blowtorch riffage of "Too Much Is Never Enough" and the self-indulgent guitar solos of "Jeez Louise," the Unband's music is united by a common cause -- the need to kick ass, which they pull off as effectively as a schoolyard bully inflicting wedgies and black eyes on the underclassmen. Like the Hellacopters and Glucifer, the Unband's sonic bombast sometimes borders on self-parody, but it's that inability to take themselves too seriously that prevents them from sounding overblown. RETARDER isn't gonna win any awards for lyrical depth or musical craftsmanship, but the Unband deserve a black and blue ribbon for sheer adrenaline overload.
All Music Guide - Tim Sheridan
This power-chord trio takes its infuences from all the greats, such as Thin Lizzy "Rock Hard", Kiss "Geez Louise" and Motorhead "Too Much Is Never Enough". All the while, they rock about as hard as they possibly can without losing consciousness. It's a heady mix that makes for some fun listening, but the derivative sound undercuts the band's punch. In the end, it seems like they have everyone's sound but their own.
Rolling Stone - Rob Kemp
...the Unband makes like a junior Motorhead in all their grizzly, amphetamine-metal glory.
