Overview

For those who have ever wondered what goes on at a men's retreat, author Dijorn Moss gives readers an in-depth look into the lives of four men who have looked for answers in all the wrong places . . . until now.

Quincy is in the beginning stages of his divorce, but he still wants to know which church member had an affair with his wife. Jamal is on the verge of the promotion of a lifetime, but unresolved issues with his son, Jamir, threaten everything. Chauncey is a man who will go to great lengths for his church, but not for his terminally ill brother. Will is a young hustler who has been given a rare opportunity to make a choice that will change his life forever.

These four men are all at a crossroads in their lives. Will they lay their burdens down at the cross, or will they choose paths that will cause more harm than good? It will all be revealed at the men's retreat, where they learn that they need God and his wisdom more than ever.

    When Men Gather

What lurks in the hearts of men is a question often asked. A portion of that answer can be found in the pages of The Retreat, the sophomore offering from Dijorn Moss.

This story focuses on three men setting out to attend the annual Men's Retreat. Each is attending for their own reason. Chauncey is a bona fide Bible thumping, scripture quoting, self-righteous, religious nut, without a clue, who would rather go blind than miss this event. Quincy seeks to confront the one he believes has caused the demise of his marriage. Jamal has been offered the job of a lifetime, but it may alter life as he knows it. And then there's Will.

Through these pages the author has skillfully entwined the lives of these men. Their points of view vary, but their choice to be vulnerable will bring them more than either expected from attending The Retreat.

    The Four Brothers of GOD,

"The Retreat" is based on four characters: Jamal, Quincy, Chauncey, and Will. Each are dealing with diverse situations in their lives but meet up for their annual religious men's "Retreat" for a weekend and later discover new revelations that may give them the answers they need badly to help them overcome their battles. Jamal is a older gentlemen with a decent career that is succeeding but deals with a tough situation from his past that he cannot seem to get through. Quincy is married to Karen with one daughter but discovers infidelity in his marriage that involves one of the men from their church. Chauncey is very successful with many things in his life but not his immediate family - his sister, Nicole, and younger brother, Henry. Chauncey cannot forgive his brother for things that occurred in the past but will need to make amends before it's too late. Will is the youngest of the men and seems to be the complete opposite of them all but will begin to see a different life and given an opportunity to develop a relationship with GOD.

All characters in this novel have different trials and tribulations but in the end will have one thing in common - to complete their purpose in life.....their relationship with GOD! This book is absolutely inspiring and I encourage all to read. Great work, Dijorn! "The Retreat" has influenced me to redevelop my relationship with God for 2011.

What is your Damascus Road ?

For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23 Greater Anointing Christian Center, a 2,500 seat sanctuary that comes together to show God that He is still number one in their lives, who's Sheppard is Pastor Dawkins, single by choice and anointed believing that the busy life he leads with the church isn't fair to a marriage. Pastor Dawkins flock consists mainly of women, so the church offers a "Retreat" for the men of the church and community to claim and reaffirm their relationship with God. Chauncey, Jamal, Quincy , Will and Pastor Dawkins, are all at Asilomar where the "Retreat" is being held only to be presented with an unexpected dilemma. Will this prove to be more than they bargained for? Chauncey, believing he's the perfect Christian striving to move into a position of Ministry is seeking to get approval from Pastor Dawkins, showing that he can quote over 100 bible verses, but can't forgive his dying brother. Will, wrestling with the fact if there is a God, is a product of the streets. A car thief who steals the car that ends up bringing him to the "Retreat." Will is forced to make a decision for his life? Will he turn back to the streets he knows, or to a God he knows nothing about? Jamal, a working man and father, his faith strong but he's plagued by the part he played in the death of his friend. But also struggling with the news he's received and now faces a choice. Quincy, a prestigious developer married for many years, is a part time Christian, attending services between golf and his business obligations. When Quincy stumbles upon information that makes him question God, Can he find his truth? These men are brought together by different circumstances and situations, as they share experiences and find themselves at the crossroads of their faith. Can what they learn at the Retreat be the answer? There is not a righteous man on earth who does what is right and never sins. Ecc 7:20 It was absolutely a wonderful read, the characters were very easy to identify with and care for. I loved this book, reading about men and their relationship with God and faith was awesome. I highly recommend this book. Melody Vernor-Bartel Reader's Paradise 5 Bookmarks
