I proposed on our first date.

She laughed and told me I was insane. Less than a day later, she said yes.

It was a whirlwind, but we were happy…

Until we got greedy and wanted a family.

It was a life I couldn’t give her, not for lack of trying. Fertility just wasn’t on our side. We sought out doctors and treatments.

Overview

I proposed on our first date.

She laughed and told me I was insane. Less than a day later, she said yes.

It was a whirlwind, but we were happy…

Until we got greedy and wanted a family.

It was a life I couldn’t give her, not for lack of trying. Fertility just wasn’t on our side. We sought out doctors and treatments. Spent money we didn’t have. Lied to our families. Smiled for our friends. Put on a brave face for a world that didn’t understand.

Finally, we were successful…

Until we were forced to bury our son.

We were left broken, battered, and destroyed.

They say love is in the details, but it was the details that ruined us.

This is the story of how I took back what had always been mine.

The retrieval of my wife and our family.

My heart broke for Elisabeth and Roman at parts, and I luxuriated inside their love with them during other scenes. For them life instantly fell into place as soon as they met. After terrible rounds of miscarriages, infertility, IVF and the death of a child, their systems were just unable to reboot back to that happiness. Retrieval is the story of Elisabeth and Roman past and present. This series contains two couples whose relationships couldn’t possibly be more different. It isn’t a super lengthy book, but a whole lot is packed inside: parental love, romantic love, hate, romantic wooing, heartbreak, fear, desire, selfishness, sacrifice, abuse, adoration, suspense, action and more. Clare actually wrecked me the most. I can’t wait to start the continuation of this duet. I’m completely invested.

This book was hard to put down. It was good from page one! It just kept on getting better. Although, it leaves you with a nice cliffhanger. Luckily, I already have the second book. Elisabeth and Roman are a divorced couple who find their way back to each other after a visit at the police station. Granted, it wasn't on good terms. But they're back together! I was rooting for them!! Clare and Walt. Clare and Walt. Clare and Walt. I hate Walt, as I'm sure everyone else does too. I feel for Clare. Knowing she can't leave a man with so many ways to find her. Both couples world's collide with a mishap that happened at a fertility clinic. This book gets so good towards the end. It's filled with action, sexy scenes and violence. Who doesn't love a book like that? This was my first book by Aly Martinez, I can guarantee that I will read more of her books!

What a great read and original story line! I will be honest and say that I adore this author and will read anything she writes BUT I will also be honest and tell you that this is an amazing read that you need to grab asap. You will not be disappointed and your emotions will enjoy the flutter and drop of this emotional ride. The bio will pull you in and the story will touch your heart, make you cry, sigh scream, gasp and fall in love. The characters are so strong you connect with them instantly. I do have to say though that I had difficulty connecting with Luke. Both couples have their own story line and of course they connect in a way that brings the plot into one story. Well told, well laid out, well written and completely addictive. I can not wait for the next installment. PS -> Roman is sex in words! Its like I can feel his breath on MY neck and hear his whisper in MY ear LOL

Aly Martinez has such a way with words, with stories, and with characters that is truly in a league of its own. I can never get enough of any of her books, but that was especially true with Retrieval. This book took me. Heart, mind, and soul. It grabbed me with its power, its intensity, and everything it had. And I willingly gave myself over to it, and Roman and Elisabeth’s story from the first page. I don’t think it’s humanly possible to read their story in Retrieval and to not be taken by it. This story is just too raw, too passionate, and too emotional to not be taken by everything within its amazing pages. I’m telling you, it’s impossible. There is no way you can experience Retrieval and everything you get with Roman and Elisabeth and not feel it, not live it, and not love every single bit of it. What I will tell you about Retrieval, besides the fact that this book is one of the best books I’ve ever read, is that it will pull at every single emotion you have. The prologue will make you cry. And then there will be so many other deeply emotional moments in this book that will make you cry, and feel all that emotion thick in your heart. Repeatedly. Roman and Elisabeth’s heart wrenching story will pull at every bit of your heart, will make you feel all the feels, and at times it will make you feel like you’re being torn into pieces. And then you’ll be torn again. And again. And again. You’ll feel it all with them, experience every ounce of fight and love and hate and pain and anguish those two share as they try to give it all a second chance. You’ll feel all of that in your bones, in you’re very being really, and it will hurt, but you know what? It will hurt so damn good. It will break you, but as much as it breaks you, what Roman and Elisabeth share will try to put you back together again too. It will tear at your heart in more ways than one, but it’ll sear you to this story and the journey Roman and Elisabeth go on together even more, and soon that searing will have those torn pieces coming back together in the most mesmerizing and all-feeling of ways. Retrieval is a story you feel every ounce of, and Aly Martinez brings those feels, the meaning behind them, and the power of it all to life in the most authentic, realistic, and encapsulating way through her perfect crafting of this story and Roman and Elisabeth’s characters. Roman and Elisabeth’s story in Retrieval is one of past regrets, second chances, and of a love so deep, so raw, and so real that it can’t be denied, no matter how hard these two might sometimes try to deny it or fight against it. It is a story of what happens when you pour every ounce of yourself over to the one person who can give you it all, if you only open yourself and your heart to them. This book is the definition of what it means to fight for the heart, the love, and the person who completes you. Retrieval is a book filled to the brim with a passion so heated, a connection so undeniable, and a love so fierce, that nothing can stand in the way of the love and authentic investment you will feel towards Roman and Elisabeth, and their story together. You will love this book. You will feel it. You will be taken with everything it gives you, right along with Roman and Elisabeth, and it will mesmerize you in more ways than one. You will be in awe of what Aly Martinez gives you within this book’s pages. Trust me on that one. And trust me on the fact that you NEED to read this book this very second.

Retrieval is the outstanding start to a duet that I couldn't put down! With this latest work, Aly Martinez's writing proves to be truly masterful. She takes the reader on a journey that is as mysterious as it is touching. I couldn't help but be drawn in by every single character and their part in this captivating read. The heart-wrenching second chance love story that is Roman and Elisabeth is one that is much more than expected. What starts as a chance to reconcile with his ex-wife becomes very complicated. With the utmost of skill, the author beautifully blends two story-lines in one and you're quickly engaged in both. Told in multiple POV's, I couldn't wait to find out what might happen with each turn of the page and at the same time, was very hesitant to find out what might happen with each turn of the page! It's intriguing. It's tender. It's sexy. It's painful. And yet it's glorious just the same. I don't want to give anything away, which is why I'm being so vague. But I will share that Roman is one of THE most wonderful men I've ever read about. His desire to make things right with his Lis blew me away. I love his bossy and overbearing ways. They are countered perfectly with his remorse, sincere devotion and tenderness for the love of his life. And their passionate trysts were so damned erotic I had to fan myself on more than one occasion. In addition, the other players in this complicated tale are just as impassioned in their quest to find out deeply held secrets and make them finally come to light. It's a book that you won't want to end and might very well curse the author when you realize the last few lines are near. Thank goodness, the second book and conclusion won't be far behind. I may say this more often than I think when it comes to Aly Martinez but I'm going to say it anyway: this very well could be her best yet. Her writing continues to go up to a new level each and every time. She's not afraid to step out of her box and give us something fresh. And for that I am sincerely grateful. 5 HUGE STARS!!

: 4.5 stars---RETRIEVAL is the first installment in Aly Martinez’s contemporary, adult THE RETRIEVAL DUET romantic, suspense duology focusing on two couples connected through deceit and betrayal. Told from four first person points of view (Roman and Elisabeth Leblanc, Walt and Clare Noir) using present day timeline and flashbacks RETRIEVAL looks at infertility, loss, betrayal and heartbreak. Two years earlier Roman and Elisabeth’s life fell apart following years of infertility and the loss of their unborn son. Fast forward to present day wherein our now divorced couple will come face to face with their worst nightmare and the possibility that life as they know it is about to spiral out of control-once again. We are introduced to Clare Noir, an abused and battered woman whose own life is a living h*ll thanks to a husband with issues of power and control- Clare will eventually cross paths with Roman and Elisabeth LeBlanc pulling our couple into a dark and dangerous path. What ensues are Roman’s attempts to get back the woman he loves, and put together the family that no longer exists- a second chance at love for two people lost to the memories of the past. RETRIEVAL is a heartbreaking, intense and emotional story line involving two couples connected by deceit, betrayal and infertility. Aly Martinez pulls the reader into a story of suspense, mystery, loss and deception. The premise is passionate, controversial and intoxicating. The characters are tragic and broken as their struggle with what was and what may never be. The story line ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned. I like the author’s use of LeBlanc and Noir….White and Black….good vs evil- a definitive line has been drawn between the characters and not just via the story line premise.

5 stars aren't enough for this book! Unique, memorable, amazing, emotional and thrilling are just a few words that come to mind when I think of Retrieval. So many of the books I read anymore just blend together because their storylines are similar in some way. It’s not that they’re bad by any means but they just don’t stand out or have their own individual “wow-factor”. Not Retrieval…I won’t have any problems remembering this story for quite some time! It’s heartbreaking and intense and the emotion that I felt from just reading the prologue left me speechless! The author did an amazing job at capturing the emotion that goes along with this type of story. The plot itself is so well developed, the 2 couples mentioned in the blurb are blended in a way I never saw coming. This book does end on a cliffhanger but whereas I usually despise cliffy’s…this one was fantastic! My heart rate was through the roof!! I’m just very thankful I don’t have to wait long for the sequel to this story because I don’t know that I would be able to take it otherwise.

This review will be short and sweet and will not cover the plot at all - you genuinely need to go into this book blind. What I will say is that I was absolutely blown away; this book was amazing! It's not a particularly long book but it packs one heck of a punch. I was pulled into this book from the get go and I honestly couldn't get through the pages quick enough. This was a true second chances story. The dialogue between Roman and Elisabeth was flawless. Their love flowed from the pages and I loved how I could feel their hurt and their love and their friendship rather than being told it. This was an unbelievable book. It contained all the feels and was a really interesting storyline that flows and grips you. 5 amazing stars and a massive recommendation! I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
