Hollywood agent Vivienne Varner finds former heartthrob Noah Patrick deciding whether to kill himself after he self-destructs his career with booze. However, she offers the former TV star, a second chance, which he accepts. Years ago Noah co-starred with Vivienne¿s daughter Lindsay Varner West on the popular show Betwixt and Be Teen. However, Lindsay hated it and left town. Now Lindsay¿s sister Jolie has persuaded her to perform in a play she wrote. Vivienne¿s plan includes Noah joining Lindsay on stage in a PR mega triumph of where are they now.
Vivienne has a hidden agenda after years of playing the cold hearted bi*ch. She feels she owes Jolie who she ignored as untalented and wants to make it up to her by insuring her play and theater is a success. She feels she hurt Lindsay by pushing her into TV and she needs to help Noah regain his former self minus the booze because she needs to prove she is human. She also wants her beloved grandson to have two parents. Encouraged by the machinations of her relatives, Noah and Lindsay¿s RETURN ENGAGEMENT includes love, but the teen secret she hid from him makes a permanent relationship seem impossible.
Readers will enjoy this delightful contemporary romance that focuses on redemption and second chances. The story line engages the audience as the lead couple and Vivienne seek to fix relationships. Though the teen tale has been used too often and adds some tension, it is an unnecessary sidebar. Still Lynn Michaels provides her audience with a strong novel that centers on mending fences as much as it does on love.

This was an enjoyable book that held my interest. Noah was a heart throb actor who threw everything away with his selfishness, drinking and lack of concern for the future. Now he has a chance to turn everything around. He stopped drinking two years ago and is trying his best to be a caring, likeable person. Lindsay was a good mom and a good sister, too good! This brings me to Lindsay¿s sister Jolie. This girl didn't even deserve to be called human! For 30 years it was her mission in life to make everyone around her miserable because her mother had left her when she was five and taken Lindsay to Hollywood. Yes, terrible but she punished and blamed everyone around her particularly Lindsay. Jolie didn't have one redeeming quality; she was manipulative, insulting and downright cruel! I found it unrealistic that her family hadn't hung her up by her toenails years before! I was also a little confused as to why Lindsay still found the need to mourn her husband's death and not allow herself (or her son) to have a real life after 8 years. Especially since very little info was given about him. But, that aside I enjoyed this book as I usually do with Lynn Michaels. The secondary characters were hysterical and I adored them. I would definitely recommend it!

I just finished Return Engagement and I thought it was a funny and poignant book. There were certainly enough characters to keep you interested and the two protaganists were believable in that they were 'real' and not too perfect (the male was a recovering alcoholic and the female had panic attacks). I think the fact that the author made them like real people that could be friends was a plus! I also thought Jolie and Vivian had to be the 2 most devilish females I have read about in a novel in a long time. I was angry that the whole family took all that anger and hate from Jolie for so long because of mistakes her mother made. Her anger was never really their fault, yet they kept paying the price for it over and over again! I loved the way it ended, with everyone getting what they deserved; however, I still think Jolie got off easier than she should have. I liked this book (almost as much as Mother of the Bride) and can't wait for the next one from Ms. Michaels. Bravo!

Vivienne 'Call-Me-Vivian-and-Die' Varner had scooped up her young daughter, Lindsay, and left Belle Coeur, Missouri, to make her into a teen star. Vivienne left her other daughter, Jolene, behind, heart broken. Lindsay and Noah Patrick were the stars of a multiple-year TV series called 'Betwixt and Be Teen'. Noah was high on life, bought expensive toys, and went changed girlfriends as often as he changed his socks. But Lindsay never wanted to be a star. Once she hit legal age, she slipped away from her mother's tight hold, flew back to Belle Coeur, and eloped. ............. Lindsay had been a widow for eight years and had a 15 year-old son named Trey. They lived a low profile and very comfortable life in the small town of Belle Coeur, Missouri. Lindsay owned and operated a book store called 'The Bookshelf' with the help of Emma (her mind reading, eldest cousin) and Pyewacket (the black cat who owned the town folk). Everyone knew each other and looked out for each other. The only bad apple was Jolene. .................. Jolene had grown up mad at Vivienne for leaving her behind and took it out on everyone in town, especially her sister. She wrote a play that would put Lindsay and Noah together again, as well as, save the local theater. Noah took the part hoping to revive his long dead career. Once back with Lindsay though, all he wanted was to prove that he had changed and turned into a man she could love. .................. ***** An awesome book by Lynn Michaels who is quickly becoming a well known author! As I neared the end of the book I slowed down my reading to make it last. The quirky characters in the town had me giggling out loud and grinning ear-to-ear. This author is not one to miss! *****
