R. L. Stine
R.L. Stine's books have sold more than 300 million copies, making him one of the most popular children's authors in history. Besides Goosebumps, R.L. Stine has written series including: Fear Street, Rotten School, Mostly Ghostly, The Nightmare Room, and Dangerous Girls. R.L. However believable his plots seem to his readers, Stine insists he has never lived one of his stories. "I've never turned into a bee -- I've never been chased by a mummy or met a ghost. But many of the ideas in my books are suggested by real life. For example, one Halloween my son, Matt, put a mask on and then had trouble pulling it off. That gave me the idea for The Haunted Mask."
Although he never experienced terror first hand, he did enjoy reading about it. "When I was a kid, there were these great comic books called Tales From The Crypt and The Vault of Horror. They were gruesome. I discovered them in the barbershop and thought they were fabulous. I used to get a haircut every Saturday so I wouldn't miss any of these comic books. I had no hair at all when I was a kid!"
His ideas came from two sources: his memory and his imagination. "When I write, I try to think back to what I was afraid of or what was scary to me, and try to put those feelings into books." He also keeps a tribal mask and a skeleton hanging in his writing studio to provide eerie surroundings. Although he handles the writing by himself, Stine says he gets "lots of help from my editors, my readers, and my friends."
Kids reading Goosebumps may be looking for a scare, but the laughs they get are no accident. Before he was R. L., he was Jovial Bob, author of such works as 101 Silly Monster Jokes, and Bozos on Patrol and editor of Bananas magazine. His ability to know what kids will laugh at , as well as what will frighten them, makes the Goosebumps series all the more enjoyable for his readers.
Stine started writing when he was 9 years old! He would write stories and jokes on an old typewriter and hand them out at school. "The teacher would grab them and take them away," Stine says, "but I kept doing it." He wrote for his high school newspaper in Columbus Ohio. After graduating from Ohio State University, he moved to New York City, where he worked on a variety of writing jobs.
Although his books are fun and exciting, writing them is serious stuff. He treats writing "...like a job." To unwind after work he enjoys playing the pinball machine conveniently located in his own apartment.
For aspiring authors, Stine feels reading is as important as writing. He offers this advice: "If you want to be a writer, don't worry so much about writing. Read as much as you can. Read as many different writers as you can. Soak up the styles. You can learn all kinds of ways to say things." As a boy he read Norse legends, Greek myths, Edgar Allan Poe and baseball stories. "My first job in New York was making up fake interviews with movie and TV stars for a group of six movie magazines. I never spoke to the stars I wrote about. I wrote three-to-four "interviews" a day, all out of my imagination."

The finger is very ugly now -- completely bent and curled and callused. When I show it to audiences, they can't believe it! This is my sacrifice for my art!"

If you are looking for a good book that you just can't keep your hands off of this is it .This book kept me turning pages,I just couldn't set it down!It's a good book to read if you have a little freetime and love to read!

This is like one of the best books ever. Even though i raed it like a milloin times it never gets old and its a book you will
Love because it a really good book and if you adore scary sories (horror) its a perfect book/sieries for you. You wont regret reading this book! Enjoy

Thia book is probably the best book i have ever read. It keps you sooo locked in that you cant put i tdown for even one second. This book is a real page turner. And if you llov eto read this book is definitly for you, yes i mean you! I love the ending. And the thing i love the most about it is that it doesnt get bored for even one second. And me of all people should know that sometimes books get kinda boring when you read this but this book is not one of them. I highly recomend this book to book worms and by that people who love to read!

I love this book. IT IS SOOOOO SCAREYY!!!!!!!!!!!. I REALLY LOVED THE ENDING. IF YOU DONT GET REALLY SCARED. You will DIE. Reading this book. I reccomend everybody to read it.

This book was one of my favorite's. I read a bunch of other good books of goosebumps. Everybody sould like R.L STine. He's awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mine name is Tammara yuki and I have a little brother and I never seen him for sixteen years because he whent to stay with new family and for me I'm geast like him but I love my new famliy because I love them so much in my heart and mind as well and I love cat's and dog's and book's and game's , sister's ,brother's ,tv, anmie xbox306 , and my peolp happy and nice and I have a boyfriend and he is nice and funny all the time but sometime's he get's mad all the time but I alway's say don't get mad because I alway's love you every much bad boy and so that's my story for tonight

I was so happy when i seen them alone in the room but then my sister told me told me to stop then i peed my pants 2 times because i was nervis this book is over rated!

There was an old lady who ate a fly i dont know why she ate that fly. To chase the fly she ate a spider. To catch the spider she ate a mouse in her house. To catch the mouse she ate a cat. To catch the cat she ate a dog. To catch the dog she ate a horse. Then she burped and threw up. And went to the bathroom and finds a monster giant clone of her and she said a bad word and said me sad and me threw up animals mama. Next she kissed a goat and and gave old lady number two. She ateateateateateateateateateateateateate and burped me fat.

I really love this booky . It's one of the greatest goosebump books ever . R.L. Stine is the greatest horror writer ever . I don't know any other horror writer that's as great as R.L.Stine . I want to be a great horror writer like R.L.Stine . I love R.L.Stine and his books .
