Will it be Mary or Kitty singled out for this dubious honor? When the gentleman in question turns out to be quite a catch after all, the contest between the sisters is on. Who will be the next mistress of Longbourn?

Darcy, Elizabeth, and the rest of the "Pride and Prejudice" cast are back as the socially awkward Mary emerges from the shadows to take center stage in Shannon Winslow's long-awaited sequel to her best-selling novel, "The Darcys of Pemberley."

Many Austen fans have a soft spot in their hearts for Mary and wonder if she might have the hidden makings of a heroine. Now, in "Return to Longbourn," we learn what really makes her tick. Meet the Author

Author Shannon Winslow specializes in writing fiction for fans of Jane Austen. "The Darcys of Pemberley," her popular sequel to "Pride and Prejudice," was her debut novel in 2011. "For Myself Alone" - a stand-alone Austen-inspired story - followed in 2012. Now comes "Return to Longbourn," the next chapter in the continuing "Pride and Prejudice" saga. She has something entirely different waiting in the wings, though - a contemporary "what if" novel entitled "First of Second Chances" (date of publication yet to be announced). After that, she has in mind a "Persuasion" tie-in, which is currently in the planning stage.

Her two sons grown, Ms. Winslow lives with her husband in the log home they built in the countryside south of Seattle, where she writes and paints in her studio facing Mt. Rainier.

This is a very interesting sequel to P&P, however, it borrows most of the story from Jane Eyre. Jane Eyre was also a governness who had similar tensions with her employer - Mr. Rochester. They had an ambivalent work relationship. Jane Eyre also had a similar ball & a past troubled relationship... The author did spin a very entertaining sequel using the "plain" Mary as the
heroine. I think the author should have mentioned the Jane Eyre connection when giving credits for this work since it is virtually the same story. Ms. Winslow did a nice job tying the pieces of the 2 novels together.

Superb! Shannon Winslow's excellent understanding of Jane Auste

    Superb!
Shannon Winslow's excellent understanding of Jane Austen's characters and stories reflect in her knowledgeable continuations of Pride and Prejudice.

A pleasure to read accurate representations of life style, dialogue and spiritual aspects others have missed.  Return to Longbourn paints a realistic and appealing picture of Mary that includes authentic character development and romantic twists enough to please this reader.

I enjoyed Shannon's picturing Mary as an independent and capable young woman with skills and fortitude as we'd expect, but also harbours unexpectedly romantic responses.  The conflicts and confusion of the story were both intriguing and suspenseful.  No spoilers here; don't worry. My interest and emotions were fully engaged.

Would I recommend this book?  In a minute!  Grab a copy and settle in for a read that will capture you right through to its deliteful conclusion.

Thank you, Shannon, for another Pride and Prejudice reading treat!

    An excellent read

An outstanding next chapter to Shannon Winslow's, Darcys of Pemberely and the continuing story of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. For Jane Austen fans this book is an exciting continuation of Pride and Prejudice and a catching up with old friends.
