Overview

Beckett Taylor is a murderer. His calling, his craft are destruction and intimidation--whether he wants it that way now or not. He left Poughkeepsie to keep his brothers safe, to keep Eve safe. Set up with happy lives to live, they're better off without him, right? But all his willpower crumbles when he hears his brother Blake's frantic voice on the phone. An unknown enemy has moved in on his old territory, and Livia's been taken. In an instant, Beckett knows it will take an attack only he and Eve can execute to bring her back. All his self-imposed embargoes are torn to shreds, perhaps along with the new man he's struggled to become. "Brother, call Eve. I'll be there soon." In this emotional and action-packed sequel to Poughkeepsie, Debra Anastasia conjures a tale of love at its most raw and ragged. With Beckett and Eve, how could we expect anything less? But even when it's messy, not magical, true love perseveres. Real love finds a way--for better or worse until death does part.

Meet the Author

Debra Anastasia is busy, just like every other mom. There's dinner, the dogs, the two kids, and her violent IBS--which is under control thanks to medication except for occasional multi-tonal farts. Her first love and crowning achievement is her thriving career as the weirdest mom on the block. Her writing started a decent handful of years ago when--along with the animals and humans in her house--the voices of characters started whispering stories in Debra's ear. Insomnia was the gateway to plots that wouldn't give up, wouldn't let go. Now they stalk her everywhere. Halfway through making lunches, a twist takes hold and--fingers full of peanut butter--she finds somewhere, anywhere to write it down. Debra lives in Maryland with her family. You can find her at DebraAnastasia.com and on Twitter @Debra_Anastasia. But be prepared...

This is the second book in the Poughkeepsie series, and it just keeps getting better. In this book, we learn more about Beckett, and the woman he loves, the dangerous Eve. Blake calls Beckett in a panic when Livia gets kidnapped. The three brothers have grown to love Livia and Kyle, and they prove there is nothing they won't do when someone they love is in trouble. Debra Anastasia is an author who deserves the kind of acclaim that comes to writers such as Jodi Picoult or Danielle Steel. She is amazing, and these books have left a permanent mark on my heart.

Loved that this book second in the series did not skip a beat from the first book. The author really developed the characters into real lives. I couldn't stop thinking about what was going to happen next. Beckett is truly a bad guy you can't help to love with a hidden good heart. Beckett loves his brothers and family. The only person he loves more is Eve. Can't wait for the 3rd book.

I just finished Return to Poughkeepsie last night and all I have to say is that it was as good as Poughkeepsie. Debra Anastasia definitely outdid herself with this one. I wasn't sure I would love this one as much as I loved Poughkeepsie, but OMG, this book kept me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next and how the situations that arose would be concluded, and whether Beckett would return to Poughkeepsie and his brother, and Eve. I could not put this book down. I absolutely love the brothers--Blake Hartt, Cole Bridges and Beckett Taylor are phenomenal. They have been through so much together and their bond remains stronger than ever. Their women are absolutely wonderful as well. Wow. The best part about this series is that it is about complete, unadulterated and unconditional love. The men and women in this series love each other with such a profound goodness and acceptance that it touches you to your very soul. The love between the brothers is so wholesome. Cole and Blake understand that, although Beckett may have made bad choices, everything he did, he did for them, so that they would be safe. Beckett has always protected them. He has always put their safety and welfare above his own. Beckett's love for his brothers runs deep and it is unflinching and unbreakable, and the same goes for Cole and Blake's love for Beckett. Despite what anyone may think about Beckett, he has a very good heart and he deserves happiness. Who has looked out for Beckett? Who has been the one to protect him? He has always done the protecting. He protected Cole and Blake while in foster care. He stood up for Mouse when the opportunity presented itself, and he even protects Eve, although she may not know it or understand it. It is my honest opinion that Beckett is a great guy with a huge heart and, despite having made wrong choices, those choices were always made with good intentions. He is a protector by nature, not a killer. I mean look at the Chery situation, again, Beckett is the protector. I also loved the introduction of all of the new characters and the new scenarios that played out in this book. Ryan and his backstory, along with what he thought he knew about his uncles, was a great addition to the story. Perception is everything. Return to Poughkeepsie was extremely well written and very engrossing. I am hoping that I will be getting another installment of the brothers from Poughkeepsie, because I do not believe that Beckett and Eve's story is complete, nor is Cole and Kyle's, and, of course, we can always have more Blake and Livia. I need some more resolutions to other storylines as well. Please let all of them, esp. Beckett and Eve, have their happily ever after, because they so deserve it. No, they need it in order to heal each other. So, thank you for writing this story about these brothers, because it is awesome and I will never get enough of the Poughkeepsie Brotherhood. I am a true fan.

I’ve had the sincere pleasure of experiencing Debra Anastasia’s style of writing since the days of her humble fan fiction origin and I’ve been hooked since the moment her characters burst into my world. Our author has a knack for weaving a tale that is gut wrenching, yet heartwarming; entertaining, but rough around the edges. I love her no-holds-barred method of storytelling. The reader never knows what to expect with the turn of each page, making one all the more eager to rush forward and see what awaits around the corner. (I refer to her as ours, because she is invested in her readers one hundred percent, and truly makes us feel like we are part of her huge extended family.) It was a long awaited labor of love, come to fruition, when Poughkeepsie made it to print… Ms. Anastasia relentlessly worked to bring the story back to her loyal readers, readers who knew that when you love something enough, really love it, no matter how imperfect it may be, it becomes real… No, Debra’s stories aren’t perfect, they aren’t pretty, and they don’t fit inside some preconceived package of what a romance novel should be. They are gritty, fearless and brutal through and through. Definitely not for the faint of heart, but if you dare think outside the box, it won’t be long and she’ll sink her hooks into you, too.  You’ll find yourself coming back for more and, fortunately, the author has a number of published works to feed your imagination.  Poughkeepsie, the first book in the Brotherhood series, introduced us to a host of characters- society’s misfits. They were individuals who never quite belonged, any where, at least not until Ms. Anastasia wove the threads of their lives into a colorful tapestry, knitting them together as an unconventional family. I was in love with Poughkeepsie before I ever had the print copy in my hands, but I think after experiencing the second book, I love it even more. Return to Poughkeepsie takes us back to where it all began. All of our old friends are there, beckoning us back into their world, along with a whole host of new characters hidden between the pages… just waiting to be discovered. The brothers have grown since we’ve seen them last. Blake and Cole have stepped out of big brother’s shadow- independent men now, with families of their own.   Blake has grown confident and sure of himself; he’s found his place, his home, and it was exciting to see that he’s found the strength within to defend his family and bring home what is his. While he hasn’t lost the tenderness of the character we grew to love in the first book, he shines with the confidence that has come from being a provider and protector for the ones he loves. The banter between Blake and Cole is lighthearted and fun, their interaction, once strained due to the complexities of Blake’s situation, is now easy going and comfortable.  And Beckett… I’ve always loved his character, so filled with conflict- a modern day Robin Hood doing the only thing he knows, to ensure the safety of the ones he loves.  Return to Poughkeepsie felt like his redemption, in so many ways. There’s a real vulnerability to his character with this volume as we find him in a place far away from the ones that he loves- his misguided attempt at making their lives a better place… without him.  But, as hard as he’s tried, old habits die hard and Beckett’s still bending the rules to right life’s wrongs- still taking society’s misfits under his wing to ensure they have a better way of life. The battered woman and her developmentally disabled sister, the ex-con who just can’t get a break… the fighting dog whose time has run out… they’ve made their way to Beckett and have become his people…  … while he tries to become a better man. For Eve. For his brothers. For their families… True, he’s had blood on his hands more times than he can count, but his heart? The heart and soul of this man have always been cast from solid gold.  My concern that Ryan would come in sweep Eve off her feet- make her see that she deserved a better man, kept me from embracing him in the beginning, but he’s a likeable guy and I see him being a pivotal player in book number three. Return to Pough makes you want to champion for Chery and her efforts to care for her sister, Vere, in a manner that keeps the autistic woman’s world consistent, and stable. Beckett’s done a wonderful job of protecting and nurturing them, in much the same manner he’s taken care of his loved ones back home. Debra pulling Ghandi from her bag of tricks was unexpected, but not surprising in the least. That Beckett organized his prison break, just in the nick of time was genius. Of course he’d pick a dog on death row… a farting, burping, humping mess of a dog no one else wanted. I absolutely adore Ghandi. I’d have broken him out too. Trish’s antics provided the perfect dose of comedic relief to even out the intensity of the recent uprising of organized crime on Beckett’s turf, but she’s expended a lot of energy with her efforts to win back her man and I don’t see her letting Ryan go without a struggle. It wouldn’t be Poughkeepsie without an element of crime, and Debra has given us that, in spades this time, with a new criminal element delusional enough to think she could fill Beckett’s shoes and all hell breaks loose when she uses the family to draw our favorite bad guy back to Poughkeepsie. When its all said and done, I feel like the unsung hero in these stories is John McHugh, it hasn’t been easy raising his little girls by himself; and watching them embrace the brother’s of Poughkeepsie’s most wanted has to go against everything he believes. He’s a fair man, though, and doesn’t judge his sons-in-law despite their backgrounds. Oh, how I wouldn’t love to see inside John’s head. He’s done an unbelievable job of containing his emotions; one can only begin to imagine the conflict that rages through his being.  How can you hate someone you know you should when they, alone, are responsible for giving you back everything you hold dear? How can you reconcile what’s right and what’s wrong… when you just aren’t sure which is which any more? Return to Poughkeepsie has left us primed and waiting for book three. There are so many possibilities and I can’t wait to discover what Debra has in store for our characters in the next book in the series.

Return to Poughkeepsie was amazing! I loved it. There was a lot of action and I am in love with all of the characters! A brother's bond is never broken! The love this family has for one another is just heartwarming!

Lots of action, an ugly dog, torture by cheeseburger, wild crazy sex, what more could you ask for? At least I didn't cry throughout like I did with the first book. I did laugh quite a bit! Great book.

I LOVED this book and everything about this book. I loved Beckett. I loved Eve. I loved Blake and Livia. I loved Cole and Kyle. I loved Mary Ellen. Woah, no I didn't. She was a very crazy chick! I was having major Poughkeepsie withdrawals for awhile now and Return To Poughkeepsie gave me my fix. Usually, I read books very quickly as there's not much to them, but I can never do that with Debra Anastasia's books. There's so much to absorb and I'm afraid I would miss a great line, or some foreshadowing. I'm definitely kept on my toes. I loved, loved, LOVED that we got to be inside Beckett's head and I got to understand him more this time around. He has a heart of gold but still feels he's unworthy of having a good life. I just wanted to hug him and smack him and hug him again (not that I'm a violent person, but Beckett likes it that way, amiright?). There are very few books that I would read over and over again and every book by this author is among the few.

WOW! Loved every word of this book. Debra continues to amaze me with her ability to spin a tale. This just unfolds beautifully as Beckett struggles to be a better man. The love between the brothers is still just as strong as ever! I love how we got to experience the trials and tribulations of the two married couples. I can never seem to get enough of Blake! Cole and Kyle are two very strong people with such beautiful hearts. I feel like I could go to Poughkeepsie tomorrow and find all of these wonderful people just walking down the street! Highly recommend this story to anyone who wants a bit of love, intrigue, heartbreak, and...umm...unorthodox methods of dealing with trouble. An amazing read that will have you wanting so much more!

I am truly in love with this series! Beckett is one heck of a man. I am so happy for the McHugh girls, they have worked their way into my heart. I was crying, laughing and angry many times throughout this book. Oh, and I cannot forget Eve...holy crow, if we could all be an awesome, hot, bad ass killer! The brothers' love is beautiful! I love Blake the most, I just wish I could hear his music or the words he writes. Excellent read and I highly recommend this series!

OMG, this book was utterly amazing! Debra Anastasia is a force to be reckoned with!! Where Poughkeepsie left off Return to Poughkeepsie picked up without skipping a beat!  Though Blake, Liva, Cole and Kyle are still very much apart of the story, this was Beckett's and Eve's tale. As WE left Poughkeepsie, Beckett left as well and is making the decision whether or not to stay away from those he loves forever. Beckett is such a walking contradiction - a killer with a hard heart and no remorse, a man with a heart of gold when it come to those he loves. He puts fear in the hearts of men, but pours love into Eve's. He is so trying to do the right thing for everyone who he cares about, he wants to be a new man, a better man.  When he receives a call from Blake, Beckett is back in a heartbeat to protect his family with Eve by his side.  "I promised in my head to leave you be. And when I saw you...I was supposed to be man enough to turn you away.. I'm not a horny teenager. It's just you...You break me. You break everything I think I stand for." This is such an epic roller coaster ride! This book will NOT disappoint!

All I can say is this second book in this series is just as great as the first, jam packed with action, drama, suspense, romance, love, sex, murder, and a lovable ugly bulldog. I loved Beckett so much in this book, him and Gandhi were perfect, it showed a side of him that I was longing to see.  I thought it was great what he was doing, can't say I was thrilled about the time jump and how much he had to miss but I guess it is more realistic. There were some new characters introduced in this book some I liked, some I could have done without. I loved how Debra covered so many current social issues in our country in this book such as Autism, Domestic abuse, child abuse, the over-population of dogs due to lack of owner responsibility, infertility, and adoption. There were some painful moments in this book that I did not see how things were going to turn out right but most of the time they did. Blake's life experience, smarts, and undying love for Livia really came in handy, he tore my heart out, how he was feeling, things he was saying, when he interacted with his loved ones, just perfect. Cole couldn't be a better husband, supportive, loving, patient and when we finally learned even more about the beginning years of his life I could not stop crying, just picturing what that must of been like for him, for any child. I love the Brothers so much more and how they interact with each other in this book and their thoughts about each other  is beautiful. There are nasty, evil people lurking around trying to cause trouble, and Eve and Beckett are taking care of business. The passion and sex between these two is even more hot then before, the one new character that has caught Eve's attention does not even come close to what Beckett does to Eve and what he means to Eve in my opinion. Beckett continues to take care of the people he loves, cares for, and makes sure all of their needs are covered, this hard, rough man is one of the most selfless people around when it comes to his protection and money.  It tears me up when in the book he talks about how much he misses his brothers and wishes he could be with them, I hated those parts. I will say even though Beckett has to make a deal with the devil it did give him a chance and some hope for his future but I am afraid in the next book  that hope will soon be quickly taken away again. Kyle is a spitfire again, the things she comes off with still had me laughing out loud and in this book she has to deal with many hard things and feelings trapped in her due to her absent mother. I will say by the end of the book it was great having a part of the old Beckett back, not all of him which was good, but the smart, demanding, fierce beast part of Beckett was missed at the start of this book. I like the changes he made but I love the parts of him that make him who he really is, that will never change. I don't even want  to think of how long until the next book comes out. I love this series and Debra's storytelling ability is fantastic, she has me so invested in these characters, I can't get enough, and for sure not quick enough. Everyone needs to read this series, it is not what you would expect.

First Impression...I have been waiting for Eve and Beckett's book for ages. Poughkeepsie, the story of Blake and Livia and their families is one of my favorite books. The Story... Where do I begin? If you've read Poughkeepsie, then you know what beautiful insanity is in store. . In Return to Poughkeepsie, the story continues with Beckett. Having left Poughkeepsie to keep his loved ones safe, he is in despair. He misses his brothers, their wives, and Eve, his assassin lover/would-be killer. Beckett sets off to become a better man, one worthy of Eve's love. The journey takes a surprising turn, one I never ever expected. But a man as renowned and feared as Beckett will not be forgotten. His family in danger brings Beckett back, but can he and Eve ever find their way? The Characters ... Return to Poughkeepsie centers primarily around Beckett and Eve and, WHOA, those two were still as crazy and fantastic as I remembered. Before, the two consistently toed a fine line between love and hate. Their lust is alive and lethal, constantly pulling them together in a dance of love and pain. Their appetite was so intense that it bordered on scary. I am always fascinated with characters who feel an attraction to a person who is their enemy, deserves their hatred. Anastasia completely sells this seemingly insane pairing; Beckett and Eve are a couple that must be together. Return to Poughkeepsie also heavily features the beloved couples Blake and Livia, Cole and Kyle. Having read Poughkeepsie, it did my heart wonders to find Blake healthy and happy with Livia. Their home is happy and full and I appreciated Anastasia's realistic portrayal of marriage and parenthood. Kyle and Livia's portion was both hilarious and heartbreaking. Hilarious because Kyle still has the funniest and filthiest mouth.I adore her and her former priest husband. Their story is also heartbreaking. Anastasia did their experience tender and honest justice. Ryan, a cop, is another character with a good bit of page time. I did not trust Ryan, at all. I wanted to hate him. But between him dealing with his ex's horrible and hilarious pranks, and the fact that he was a stand up guy who had a certain character's back, and the fact his heart gets broken, I ended up loving Ryan. The Writing... Debra Anastasia has once again proven herself a truly gifted author. Her prose is gorgeous. The tone easily transitions between sexy and exciting, thoughtful and sad, dangerous and loving. And humorous.. I loved that Return to Poughkeepsie was a story with so much depth. Eve and Beckett by all reasoning, should never be together. The fact that I agonized for these two speaks a lot for the character development and emotions infused into the story. Could I Put Return to Poughkeepsie Down? The story gets off to a truly heart pounding start, full of close calls, violence and sex. When the story soon took a much, much different path than I expected, I was thrown. I was afraid that as a reader I would be missing out on very important moments .I saw where the story was going, and I rallied. There's lot of mobster-ish happenings in the middle portion of the story, which really isn't my thing, but I appreciated how it impacted Eve, Beckett and Ryan. As the story progressed, the tension built to a kickass pace, and my heart was in my throat. In the End... Return to Poughkeepsie was full of love, hope, violence, danger, pain, anguish, and achingly beautiful moments. And the ending was perfection.

Are you ready to Return to Poughkeepsie? When I read Poughkeepsie back in 2011, I knew that there had to be more. The story of the kick-ass assassin and the ultimate bad boy seemed unfinished. Those that know the background of Eve and Beckett know that it seems so impossible for them to be together. In Return to Poughkeepsie all of our favorite characters return, a whole slew of new characters are introduced, and we're taken down an unexpected, wild and crazy path that will leave you craving more. I adore the way Ms. Anastasia weaves a story. She doesn't just focus on one couple. In this sequel we get a continuation of the stories of all three relationships, and so much happens to each and every one. Blake & Livia...how beautiful it is to see their love continue to deepen and grow and create a family. A terrifying ordeal ends up strengthening their bond even more. Blake fans, you will melt all over again for him, his tender heart, and his love for Livia's smiles. Cole & Kyle...what these two endure as a couple is so painful that my heart goes out to them. In a heartbreaking situation that tests true love and perseverance, I'm telling you right now to have tissues ready! Beckett & Eve... “She loved him, and it hurt her.” “I'm not worth your heart yet, but I'm gonna be. Eve, the next time you see me, I'm going to be a man worth it.” Things have always been complicated for Beckett and Eve. Yes, they love hard, and their passion for each other is raw and rough. They are truly made for each other. Eve has always been one of my faves. Wow! I think I now have a bigger girly crush on her now! She's trained herself to be a deadly weapon. She commands such strength everywhere she goes. Men know to cover the family jewels in her presence. Beckett, oh, how I heart you! He wants to turn good for Eve's sake, so he continues to stay away and work on turning himself into someone worthy. I love how he's written to be so selfless! For Beckett, his loved ones are always a priority. If you have a good heart, Beckett will have your back. Return to Poughkeepsie has the crazy and funny swirled with the action, suspense, and angst. It also flows with lots of heart and love all around. So many things happen all at once. You'll be wondering what the heck is going on and where Beckett went, but there is a method to all the madness. I appreciate the attention given to the bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood. It was nice returning to this familiar place. Things end on a happy-for-now note. So much goes down between Eve and Beckett that I just don't know how Ms. Anastasia will grant them their true HEA. I can't wait to find out in Poughkeepsie #3!!! *A complimentary copy was provided in exchange for an honest review.*

WHAT OCCURS WHEN YOU THINK WALKING AWAY IS BEST, BUT ALL WAS ACCOMPLISHED WERE SHATTERED HEARTS? Return to Poughkeepsie is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Author Debra Anastasia delivers another WONDERFUL novel from the POUGHKEEPSIE series.  Return to Poughkeepsie is Beckett’s story, but if you have not read the first novel in the series, Poughkeepsie, stop and go read it now. You will love the novel as I did, because this is truly a unique love story like no other and a favorite of mine. Return to Poughkeepsie starts immediately begins where the first book ended, but now we are introduce to new characters too. Beckett and Eve are still trying to filter through their own personal demons, so they too can find normalcy.  “I'm not worth your heart yet, but I'm gonna be. Eve, the next time you see me, I'm going to be a man worth it.” Unfortunately, five years have pass but the past seemed to found a way to repeat itself. Especially, when Beckett and Eve are force to their previous lives in order to protect their love ones.  “Don’t make me out to be something worth saving. We both know I’m a waste.” His voice was so quiet. “I wish I was better at telling you why you have to stay here. I wish I could put into words the part of my heart that has your name written on it. That part hurts right now. You have to be here. You love life too much. You’re so important. I wish I could make you understand this.” He tried to smile at her valiant efforts. “I would keep you if I could. You can sleep here, right on this couch. Beckett, I will let you hold this baby when it comes.” She touched her stomach. “Does that tell you how much you mean to me? It’s the only thing I can come up with.” He shrugged. “Mouse would be disappointed. He’d feel like he didn’t do his job if you died…Eve loves you. Wherever she is—in this strip club—is that what you’ve been wishing for?” Beckett shook his head. “No, right? She loves you. You can’t kill someone she loves. You just can’t.”  Even though family and friends have brought Beckett and Eve together, will they be able to mend their broken hearts and find trust in one another again? Author Debra Anastasia romance novel, Return to Poughkeepsie, has done an AMAZING job writing an EMOTIONAL LOVE STORY capturing your HEART and SOUL immediately unable to put the book down. I am not very emotional, but reading Return to Poughkeepsie had my emotions on a roller coaster. You will feel LOVE, LOST, COMPASSION, SADNESS, ANGER, DISTRUST, FORGIVENESS, and FRIENDSHIP. Return to Poughkeepsie is A MUST READ, ON MY TOP 5 FAVORITE READS LIST, and MOST DEFINITELY will be read AGAIN and AGAIN!
