Fascinating interweaving of Biblical reference in a tale of fantasy

Told in the style of ancient myths, Brian Thompson’s The Revelation Gate borrows from themes and events of the Old and New Testaments of the Bible, creating the history and theology of an alien world where slaves await the coming of a promised Savior.

The Son of El is born of mystical rain and beings his reign in hiding. Readers might easily play “spot the reference” as they follow his tale, with Moses, Jeremiah and more mixed in with the virgin birth and some wise teaching on subjects such as faith, love, law, tolerance and exclusivity.

There’s a consistent sense of the ancient in this novel, with very detailed descriptions of history, plausibly bringing the complex and complete regulations and conditions of an alien society to life. The rather formal language might be a problem for some readers, as might some editing lapses and unlikely word choices. But the slow reading does lend a sense of gravity and import to the tale.

The book may be part of a series, but it reads well in isolation, exploring a Messiah’s struggles with religious restrictions, predictions of the future and plan, and his own humanity.

    An Interesting Read

"The Revelation Gate" is parallel to that of the birth of Christ. It's a tale of Isoke wanting a child but remained barren until the holy rain. Aitan, Isoke's husband, had other wives but was never intimate with Isoke. Aitan knew that his brother possessed feelings for his wife so when Isoke became pregnant, Aitan questioned the pregnancy. Could it be his brother's child or that of the holy rain?

"The Revelation Gate" is my first read by Brian L. Thompson, and I must say that his writing style took me by surprise. Thompson does a wonderful job capturing the reader's attention in showing love among family, trust, survival of the fittest, secrets, death, murder, faith, sacrifice, lust, betrayal and the strength of a mother to keep her child alive. My two favorite characters were Isoke for her strength and Chimelu because of his kindness, compassion, and honor.

    Three Beautiful Love Stories

The Revelation Gate by Brian Thompson is divided into three parts and tells the sweetest love story of them all in a new way, available as a beautiful paperback or in eBook format, published by Great Nation Publishing, copyright June 7, 2011. In Part I, reading is a challenge due to the names of the characters, description, and bloodlines. It reminded me of the beginning of the Bible, the best book in the world. Once past the first part of Part I, the storyline begins to envelope you in not one, but three beautiful love stories. Isoke and Chimelu's is that of a mother and son and show even separation for many years didn't break the bonds of love. Lusala is a young girl who loves Chimelu, but he's forbidden to return that love and has to resist the temptation. I love Chimelu's special touch with Lusala that forever changes her life even though he has to refrain from returning her love, at least in the manner in which she desires. Chimelu's love and faithfulness to his one and only God is the third love story, a story so profound it changes the lives of his people forever. Rich with detail, it's obvious that Thompson spent much time with his creative endeavor, for The Revelation Gate is the greatest love story of them all spun in a new method and brings glory to Jesus Christ. I truly enjoyed reading it and found the romance between Lusala and Chimelu believable, beautiful, and sad, since the one man she could ever love was unable to return her love. But when you think about it, He's the one person who loves unconditionally and never forsakes you. He loved her with his heart, soul, and spirit and that was enough for her in the end, so don't miss the greatest love story ever told in a new way. I rate this novel a four-star review because of the slow hook in the beginning, but the remainder of the book and the ending is worth it, so grab it, hang with it, and don't give up on these beautiful love stories that come together to make the greatest love story ever told.

THE REVELATION GATE by Brian L Thompson is filled with thought provoking issues that gives one an instant comparison to the Christian experience. Although THE REVELATION GATE is a work of fiction, the story is based on the premise of a saviour to the rescue.

Part One gives in-depth descriptions of the creation and lineage of the people, and at times is challenging when trying to follow the blood lines as well as remembering the cast of characters and their names and titles. Understanding the characters is important as this helps develop the storyline in Part Two.

In Part Two, the characters develop distinctive personality traits that enhance the on-gong theme of faith. The main characters Chimelu and Isoke continually struggle with right and wrong and these struggles add another level to the story.

THE REVELATION GATE is an intriguing take on life in its most primitive state and how the power of believing can soften even the hardest of hearts.

Fantastic tale that brings immeasurable inspiration to the reader!

The Revelation Gate is an intelligently written book that is unique in many ways. I've never read anything like it. Embedded in this epic tale of ancient African tribes are numerous Scriptures from the Old and New Testaments. But they are very subtle in how they are used. Only someone who knows prophecy and the Scriptures will see the many gems in this book that will inspire and encourage the reader. To someone unfamiliar with the Bible this appears to be a fascinating tale of intrigue, overcoming incredible obstacles and of inspiring immeasurable hope. Some aspects of this story almost reminded me of The Clash of the Titans, but with a Biblical twist.

I loved the way the story was put together and the way the author used powerful words to elicit detailed images that stick with you even after you close the book. It's not an easy read at all. (Yeah, you have to actually think when you read this book.) The author is clearly and intelligent man who has great insight into a number of things including the human condition. The Revelation Gate reads like an allegory but with a number of powerful twists and turns that combine all of the books in the Bible into a mind-blowing plan of salvation. This blend of prophecies and Scripture will truly inspire everyone who reads it. I loved it!
