Overview

They believed the evil was destroyed. They were wrong.

A Ghost Cats story.

It took Reya Lynx a long time to learn to live with her animal half, but now she's perfectly content as a gallery owner in Taos. She's lived longer, loved more, even died more than most. Enough to have ceased caring what anyone thinks of her, least of all the one man she's managed to steer clear of-until now. Her mate.

Lorenzo Craigen, leader of the southwest mountain lions, is a cop, and a damn good one. A recent string of murders seems all too familiar, and it's not something he can exactly share with his colleagues. The last time he faced a killer like this, it was a long time ago. As in centuries. And that's why he has sought out Reya, whether she likes it or not.

Reya can't believe the sadistic shaman who left her haunted with brutal memories-and tore her and Lo apart-has come back from the dead. There's only one way to find out. Bite the bullet and work with him to solve the murders. And try to resist the re-ignited heat between them . . . while a killer waits for the perfect moment to serve up cold, cold revenge.

    Excellent Read

Reya Lynx has put her past behind her and is now a gallery owner in Taos, New Mexico. Her ex-lover, Lorenzo Craigen is leader of the Southwest Mountain Lions and also a cop who is called in to investigate a rash of murders. Lorenzo senses it's the work of his and Reya's old enemy, Sael, and needs her help to solve the case.

From the beginning I really liked this story. I'm a fan of both paranormals and mysteries, so combine the two and I'm in reader heaven. I liked both Reya and Lorenzo, although being half animal, they came across as everyday people and also a couple with a broken past who will hopefully find their way back to one another.

The dialogue is very realistic and their past love and tragedy is slowly revealed. The author does an excellent job of not throwing too much at you at once and as you read on, you begin to understand why these two are apart. They also shared a loss (I won't give it away) which makes them very sympathetic and you end up cheering when it looks like they'll find happiness at last. Sex scenes are more seductive than graphic and placed well in the story. Setting was ideal and really added to the storyline.

Secondary characters were perfect too and the story although short (the book is 83 pages long but the actual story is just 67 pages -- there are three other short stories in this book, all part of the Ghost Cat series. All are a fun, quick read and an extra bonus to this story), was in fact long enough for me. It held my interest from the first word until the last.

Even if you're don't think you'll enjoy a paranormal romance, I'd encourage you to pick this one up. It's a fun and enjoyable read, a good mystery and I'll be looking for more books by Jaycee Clark.
