Overview

Possessing the uncanny ability to fry a television set from twenty paces can really wreck a girl’s social life.

If you’re looking for proof, just ask sixteen-year-old Alexandra Parker. After catching her boyfriend in the arms of the prettiest girl in school, she made the journey from social elite to social pariah in a haze of electricity and exploding electronics. But finding herself at the bottom of Bay View High’s social hierarchy was nothing compared to the shock of discovering who—and what—she really is.

After being zapped out of a burning bookstore by the mysterious Declan—a hero nearly as handsome as he is infuriating—Alex finds herself under the protection of the powerful Grayson family. It’s through them that she learns the truth: that the world she’s always known is nothing like it appears to be... and that she has far more in common with them than she might want to believe.

Now, on the run from a fire-wielding hit man and a secretive government organization, Alex must navigate a strange and treacherous new world filled with superhuman mutants known as Variants. As she begins to unravel the many secrets of her family’s past, she uncovers the real reason for her parents’ death twelve years earlier—and finds out that the threat to her family, and to everyone she cares about, is still dangerously real.

    An amazing YA paranormal read!
I have really been on a paranormal kick lately. I have been lucky because most of the books that I have been reading have all been good. This book just happened to be one that ended up being amazing.
Alex is your typical all-American teen. Pretty, popular but still grounded and very sweet. When she was very little she lost her parents in a tragic accident and has been raised by her Aunt Cecilia, who is just like a mother to her. Life is wonderful until the day of a bizarre accident. With the way the high school rumor mill runs, she soon is labeled as the crazy girl and finds herself an outcast, with only one friend to her name. Just when things seem like they can’t get worse a crazy man shows up and tries to kill her with fire that he can shoot out of his hands. But things like that don’t happen in real life, right?! Suddenly Alex is thrown in to a world she never dreamed was possible, some people do have strange powers and where her own role is more than she could ever begin to imagine.
I must say that I completely fell in love with Alex. She is such an amazingly sweet girl. Even when things her only concern is for those she loves. She is also very feisty. This comes in very handy once she meets Declan. He is the stereo-typical bad boy and uses sarcasm as self-defense. Alex does not put up with his crap at all and eventually, of course, we get to see that Declan is actually a very amazing guy.
The plot wasn’t all that unique. Think X-Men meets teen romance. That being said, I still really enjoyed this book. While it did follow a pretty predictable path the story still had enough twists to keep it fresh and interesting. The only thing that I didn’t like was that it ended. I now need to read the next book to find out what ends up happening to Alex and her friends.
One of the best things about this book is that it is a clean read. I love that there are still authors out there that understand you don’t need foul language, sex, or extreme violence to make a book great. There was nothing in this book that I found even remotely questionable, which is probably a lot of the reason why I loved it so much.
I encourage every fan of a good paranormal story to read this book. With action, romance and kick butt teens with special powers, why wouldn’t you love it?!
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first new idea I have read in a while. I love the relationships and emotions that just hop off the pages. I can't wait to read the next books in the series. Alex who started out as a weak girl just trying to get through the day to a girl that is strong enough to stick up for her and everyone she cares about. Cant wait to see what happens between Alex and Declan ...

Fun, Fresh Paranormal Series by this Debut Author
Revival is the first book in the Variant Series and Jena Leigh's debut novel.  The main character is Alexandra Parker.  She is, or I should say was, a typical teenager, was popular, had a boyfriend, and everything seemed to be going great until the day she caught her boyfriend with another girl in the computer lab, which resulted in her somehow blowing up everything electronic in the room, an event that left her scarred both emotionally and physically.  Now she is just a freak, or at least that is the way she feels.  When her best friend Cassie talks her into spending the day out on the town, she notices a strange hottie that seems to be everywhere they go. Then the same hottie ends up saving her from a burning bookstore, and Alex finds herself in a place and a part of a world she never knew existed.  Alex discovers she is a Variant, someone with supernatural abilities, and apparently so are quite a few more of her "new found friends."  She can't decide if that makes her more of a freak of not, but nevertheless, she has to come to terms with what she is, the lies she has been told all her life, the fact that someone is trying to capture her and is threatening not only her, but her friends, and then there is the hottie that drives her nuts, but she can't quit thinking about him.  Caught up in a world where people have superhuman powers and dangerous agendas, Alex soon finds herself in the middle of more excitement, danger, and drama than she ever bargained for.

I really enjoyed Revival.  I loved Alex's character.  Not only was she funny, she was loyal, pretty tough despite the circumstances, and she winds up being a pretty kick-ass heroine.  Declan was by far my favorite of the guys in the book.  He is too hot for his own good, he's cocky and very sure of himself, but he also is very loyal and fierce when it comes to those he cares about.  He has some issues regarding Alex and the past that he is working through also.  There were quite a few other secondary characters that were also fun to get to know.  Nate is the other hottie in the picture.  He is rather quite, extremely handsome, but he's got a big secret that we only get a glimpse of, and I can't wait to find out more about that.  Cassie is Alex's best friend and I just loved her.  She is snarky, funny, and doesn't take crap from anyone, superpowers or not.  Revival was fast paced and kept my attention from beginning to end.  There is romance in the book.  It isn't the main focus of the book, but there is just enough of it there to make it good.  Actually, I hope to see more of it in the next installment, and I am really rooting for Declan and Alex to get together.  Overall, Revival has plenty of action-packed scenes, along with drama, some funny moments, some romantic moments, and then there is the paranormal aspect, which makes the book an overall fun and enjoyable read.  Jena Leigh has done a great job writing her debut novel and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series to see where she takes the characters from here.

This book was amazing! Jena Leigh did an astounding job with this book.

Dealing with stress alone is horrid... but when the stress causes changes in you that are absolutely sudden and major and not quite normal, we could all be so fortunate to handle it as well as Alex did. Alex struggles to stay alive, so she thinks, as someone constantly tracks her down and attempts to kill her. Turns out, life is much more complicated than she thought and not everyone is telling her the truth. Is it for her own good? Or are there ulterior motives?

I honestly couldn't put this book down. I had to know what happens next! And then I reached the end of the book and I knew I was hooked to this series. I love how we switch points of view between Alex and most of the other main characters of the story. It's nice to see and know about events from their point of view and get a different perspective.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves YA or paranormal with a touch of romantic tension. This book is very well written and I'm glad to have read it.

    I Also Recommend:

    Cool concept

Alex is this girl that whenever her emotions are high, no electronics are safe. After Declan saves her from danger, she finds out about her 'gifts' and realizes that she's not alone when it comes to that. She finds out they are called Variants.
I liked this book. I look forward to continue reading the series.
