This book is an intriguing account of a history of the little Republic of Panama. Suffering under foreign oppression for more than 400 years, the Panamanian people stood up against their masters, the Republic of Colombia, with whom they had a love-hate relationship. In November 1903, Panamanians got up from their knees and, with a little from friends in North and South America, threw off their shackles in an almost bloodless revolution after 82 years of union and disunion. Mr McDaniel has shown remarkable insight into their struggle for national identity and has told their story in a forthright and honest appraisal.
