This book is a series of one-shot comics that are linked together by an overall story arc involving the kidnapping of Captain Britain and the attempt invasion of Earth by demons from hell. Yeah, you read that right. It seems that are cousins across the pond have a vivid imagination and a love fro dark fantasy that is unique to them and, I must say, totally enjoyable. This Graphic Novel is not only well written, action packed and engrossing it always has a wealth of strong heroes good art and the dry British humor that always work so well. Add in the British locales and the new age mysticism/folklore/druid magic stone circle world that the Brits do so well in literature and the reader is in for a good ride. The one-shot format can be a little restrictive in the sense that the time spent with a favorite hero is all too brief but this comic serves up plenty of good characters. Dark Angel, Union Jack and Colonel Liger are all heroes I wouldn't mind following and the quality writing only adds to the readers experience despite the over the top story. The artwork is sharp and clean but some of the character rendering left me with something to be desired. For some reason the artists draw all the male heroes as massive hulk like behemoths with muscles on top of muscles and I found that to be a little off putting. Also they like to cram a lot of actin into the panels and found myself stopping so I could fully appreciate what was happening but that may be the one-shot format as much as anything. In all this was a good novel taking place in a universe that I was not familiar with but had no problem immersing myself in and was unique and original to the property. If you need a break from the stateside superhero dramas and enjoy a good sci-fi/horror/fantasy/invasion story than this may well be the book for you.
