    Eveything you need to succeed!

I knew immediately upon seeing it that this book was for me. I have a daughter aged 8 and a son aged 5. Our issues are staying in our beds at night (midnight-2 am wanderers), cleaning rooms and playrooms, and getting out of the house on time. The scenarios in this book were spot on, especially when describing the frustration of being woken up each night and taking ages to get everyone back to sleep. I have always used some sort of reward system, but it was informal and the children and I would tend to forget it when things got busy. So, when I saw this book with the cute charts and the section on the difference between bribery and reward (very illuminating), I knew it would be perfect for getting our household organized for the upcoming school year. So far we have filled out a contract for the cleaning of the playroom and instituted the raft chart for our nighttime progress. It is working nicely so far. In September, my daughter will need to be ready each morning by 7:25, so I am planning to use the design your own chart to cover: laying things out the night before, having book bag & instruments ready and then the elements of the morning routine. I am also impressed with the ticket plan, so I am keeping that in my back pocket for practicing the violin! Thanks for a great book and a wonderful system!

Every parent and professional working with children should own this book!

As a clinical psychologist, I have found Rewards for Kids! to be a wonderful hands-on guide to promoting behavior changes in children using a positive, creative approach. Rewards for Kids! describes the concepts underlying a reward plan, when one can be helpful, and how to implement it. Dr. Shiller and Bonnie Matthews provide a multitude of vignettes to illustrate how easy and effective it can be to implement a reward plan for children. This book also provides a wide array of checklists, charts, coupons, tokens, certificates, etc., that parents can simply cut out and use with their children. This book is refreshing and hopeful, focusing on positive parenting that can actually help strengthen the bond between child and parent, while at the same time eliminating negative behaviors. Rewards for Kids! can make all the difference for parents and professionals who are struggling to find a way to help children make positive changes in their behaviors, while at the same time building on their self-confidence and self-esteem.
