Appropriately enough, given the title, John McAleer has produced a magisterial biography of Rex Stout. Reflective of his access to Stout and his years of research, the book is highly detailed. Yet, while written by a scholar, it is pleasantly readable. It will be particularly appealing to fans of Stout's best-known creations Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin, but is primarily a biography of Rex Stout.

Stout fans will really enjoy this new edition of the definitive, Edgar award-winning biography of Rex Stout. This printing also contains a new Introduction by Professor McAleer and a new Afterword by his son, mystery writer, Andrew McAleer (Appearance of Counsel) who visited Rex Stout's home and study at age eleven. As always P.G. Wodehouse's Foreword is great fun and so are the never-before-published photos of Rex Stout. Satisfactory Time Three!!!
