Doody's Review ServiceReviewer: Jeffrey S. Rosenthal, MD (Bridgeport Hospital)
Description: "This book is replete with visual and written depictions of rhinoplasty techniques. "
Purpose: "Simply stated, the author wishes to impart his 31 years of experience in rhinoplasty to others. "
Audience: Students of this particular surgical technique, seasoned or novice, will benefit from this book.
Features: The text comprises 21 chapters and a host of videos and 3D animations (obtained online) which bring the written word to life. Photos and drawings are superbly deployed throughout the book. The operative procedures are highlighted by pearls of wisdom and videos and/or 3D graphics that demonstrate the author's "logical and reproducible" surgical approach. From a practical perspective, the chapters commence with an introduction to the anatomy and physiology of the nose. Patient assessment and dynamics of rhinoplasty precede the surgical approach to the nose, tip, and bones. The various approaches to deal with the long nose, nose associated with the cleft lip, alar rim deformities and controlling the alar base, nostril size, along with specific anatomic variances in skin and ethnicity, are described. The correction of the inner nose, cocaine induced defects, secondary rhinoplasties, and complication management round out the chapters.
Assessment: Although there is a plethora of books on the nose, Dr. Guyuron's is well worth adding to your bookshelf.
