Artist Representative, Eilis Kennedy, gave up a singing career so that other women could have a fair chance at having their music heard. Having suffered rejection from callous men in the industry, she thought she would get away from ‘casting couch’ mentality. But when she finds herself in the office of Fergus Manley, all bets are off. Disgusted by his continual come-ons and lewd invitations, Eilis is looking for ‘the one’ who will take her career to the next level, getting out from under Fergus’s controlling thumb.
Aspiring blues guitarist, Kieran Vaughan, is looking for his big break. But after suffering near bankruptcy at the hands of an unscrupulous business partner, Kieran is left picking up the pieces. He’s unsure if the debts will ever be paid or if he’ll ever have a chance to do something with his music. At his whit’s end, he’s about ready to throw in the towel and find a full-time job with real hours.
When Eilis discovers Kieran playing in a seedy pub in Dublin’s Northside, she knows he’s the one rare talent she’s been searching for. With her know-how and his talent, Eilis will finally get everything she’s been waiting for. Neither of them count on the powerful attraction from first meeting. Eilis is so rocked by Keiran’s forthright words that it sends her running. Kieran risks being arrested as he chases Eilis across Ireland.

Kieran Vaughan's tolerance has struck bottom. His dreams of playing the "blues" before a larger, more appreciative audience has been reduced to playing in seedy pubs where the customers are so drunk they haven't a clue to what they're hearing. Add to that he's been cheated out the money he has rightly earned by his thief of a boss, but continuing to play in the filthy dump where he works is better than being, as his boss puts it, on "the Dole." (Irish name for welfare) He wonders if he'd be better off going to America where he understands people really understand and love the type of music he so passionately embraces and shares! But his huge debt makes even that a far distant dream! Depressing enough? Kieran's luck may be about to change in a totally unexpected way!
Eilis Kennedy is in a similar situation. She's a gal who has an amazingly beautiful voice but she gave that up so that she could begin a hopefully more lucrative career as a a finder of new talent. Find the greatest singers and offer them a record contract! Sounds like a dream, right? It's not so for Eilis as she's also had an unfortunate history with a lover and is besieged by Fergus, a man whose style alternates from brutally bossy to being a suave sexual harassment poster boy! Eilis is totally repulsed and frightened by him. For reasons that emerge later in the story, however, Eilis has the ego of a flea and just can't seem to escape her own circumstances, believing she's totally untalented and would do worse in whatever place she would escape to!
Then one night, she travels to "The Little Man Pub" in Northside Dublin and is completely besotted by this gorgeous hunk of a guy who croons out the blues in a style Eilis knows could make him a star for sure. Their contact is both frustrated by the tense sexual electricity stunning both of them and a bit of caustic banter coming from the cynical side of both who seek to protect their egos from more battering! However, the fire has been kindled and will not be put out!
Onward this sexy, spark-laden story progresses. Fergus becomes even more angry when he learns Eilis is attracted to Kieran in more than a professional manner and so becomes even more aggressive. Kieran and Eilis begin to play a cat and mouse game leading them to an ultimately very passionate union eventually but with plenty of conflicts between each scene, ranging from fighting, threats, physical illness, violence and more!
Rhythm of My Heart is a romance story told in a tense, pumped-up, passionate way by someone who knows exactly how to balance the tension of characters falling desperately for each other but riddled with self-doubt and manipulation by other predatory creeps! Very, very nicely done, Kemberlee Shortland!!!

Kick back with an ale or Bailey's and enjoy this musically and magically Irish love tale with a Fairy Godson in training!
Eilis Kennedy has always felt fat, never been comfortable in her own skin and feels like the only 28 year old virgin in Ireland. She was a singer, but she refused to sleep her way to a record deal amd became an artist rep for Eireann Records. She gets to listen and find great talent all around Dublin City, Ireland. She has work hard for everything she has, like her beautiful uptown home. Eilis would have an good life, if she didn't have a lecherous and creepy boss, Fergus Manley, in her work life and his semi stalking her and her home. Everything changes the night she is at The Little Man Pub, and sees and hears HIM!
Kieran Vaughn has had a crappy life, since his business partner left him bankrupt. All he has now besides debt is his lousy apartment, his supportive younger sister, Gráinne, his trusty blue guitar, the family cottage and even this singing gig at this rink-dink pub. After a night of playing, he gets 40 Euro, as his pay and is handed a business card, from another old lady, who wants a quickie. Kieran is so tried of this pub, strange women's proposals and lack of money.
The next day, Eilis is dresses in her safe clothes and goes back to the pub to get a signed rep deal. She is a professional, at least that is what she keeps saying in her head over and over again. Kieran is shocked that this Goddess is a real artist rep and wants to sign him. When Kieran and her shake hands, it's WHAMO, the sexually energy is flowing between them! Eilis grabs her hand back like it's on fire, but knows he feels it, too. He sees this luscious woman and WANTS! She tells him that he has the perfect sound and she wants to help him to the top. Kieran is tried and frustrated, gets mouthy, flirts badly and she tells him that she will rep him, but that is all. She leaves pissed, flees to her waiting cab, only it left and her cell at home. As Kieran leaves, he sees that Eilis is stranded. He offers her a ride home, as a way to say he was sorry, and she agrees. He climbs to his Harley and she climbs on in her dress. Kieran looks, she blushes, he pulls her close, she pulls away and they both go for the ride of their lives. With her creepy boss, Fergus, in tow, she goes back to pub that night, so he can hear Kieran sing. They both feel that strange and kinda magically pull. The evening is full of Fergus misunderstandings galore happening, Kieran with Fergus maybe understand this strange pull. As Kieran performs, he knows Eilis is there, because he can feels her. Kieran storms out, shatters his guitar against a wall, then climbs on his Harley and goes to his sister's house in Cork City. Ellis spends the rest of the night trying ditch Fergus and get ready for her vacation to see her BF, Megan, and her son Sean.
Once in Cork City, Megan takes Eilis to the local pub to have a few drinks and after awhile she begins to feel Kieran, panics and flees the pub. When she back at Megan house, she begins to feel him again, looks out the window and sees him at another woman's home and crumbles in Megan's arm. As Kieran is walking to his sister's house, he feels her, knows she is close, and sees her in the window across the street. The next morning Ellis takes Megan and her son, Ellis' godson on a quick vacation out of town, because shopping makes a girl SMILE! Hot on their tale is Kieran, as he follows them to their inn and checks himself into a different inn. While a sweet innkeeper begs to watch with Sean, they go to another pub and Eilis is conned up on the stage to sing. While she is singing, Kieran enters and is floored with her awe inspiring voice. Next thing she knows, he has her up against the wall, with toe curling kisses, but Sean comes down with a fever and the chicken pox. Now Sean is a Fairy Godson in training, so Eilis wakes up with giant red dots all over, no ride home, has another famous Harley ride, as Kieran kidnaps her to his family's cottage, where his soothes her with oatmeal and calamine lotion, all over her body. Can Kieran proof hat his love is real? Will Eilis ever be comfy in her own skin? How can Kieran show her she is a Goddess, to him? How much longer will Eilis be the oldest virgin in Ireland? Will the Harley take them for another WILD and TWISTED ride?
This is my first, but not my last Kemberlee Shortland romance. I loved the Irish flair she used, that gave this tale a different kind of voice, for a contemporary romance. Eilis was, in my humble opinion, a REAL woman with curves and she was so sick of seeing those Victoria Secret females every where. I have a daughter and this century isn't kind to women at all. Kieran was raised right because he does look at the outside, but looks on the on inside and his heart wins. The chicken pox was an unusual and brilliant idea and I felt that Sean was a romantic at heart, so he made the perfect Fairy Godson. I love historical romances because it's so easy for me to be transported to what I call my COSMOS. Ms. Shortland wrote this romance with her Irish heart and I was easily SUBMERGED into Ireland at a pub, listening to Irish tunes (yes, I found that on the internet), slammed a few Bailey's shots and watch a couple discover that magically thing called love! I recommend this book to romance reader, who like new and exotic places, a magically music theme, Harleys and a fabulous love story. Ms. Shortland also made me Google, which I love to do, because Kieran compared Eilis to Psyche. l learned that she is the wife of the Greek god Eros, who is the god of love and what female would not swoon! I give this first book in Ms. Shortland's Irish Pride series a score of 4 fingers up and 7 toes and I can't wait to read the next one!
Tirgearr Publishing gave this book for my honest review.
