Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Heidi Hauser Green
From the start, this book invites reader involvement. The cut-out circle on the cover, revealing a tuft of yellow fluff, draws attention. The text on the first page instructs: "Put your finger in the hole on each page to see if you can find Henny's lost egg." The problem, revealed on the accompanying page, is that Henny has laid an egg but that it rolled through a hole into the room below. She chases after it as it rolls across a table, through a window, along a rain gutter, down a pig's back, across the barnyard, through a fence, into a hollow log, and so on. All's well that ends well, of course, with a delightful surprise for Henny at the end. Reading this book with more than one young child at a time poses a small problem: All will want their fingers in the book! (Take turns or, better yet, read it once for each. Don't worry; they'll stay interested.) Reviewer: Heidi Hauser Green
