K-Gr 2-Detailed, expressive pictures highlight this retelling of a familiar tale. The book opens with Papa Bear playing a violin, the sheet music scattered about him on the floor. Mama Bear snoozes while sitting upright on an overstuffed loveseat. Baby Bear dips into the honey jar while no one is watching. A crackling fire warms them all. Gorbachev's illustrations do not disappoint readers by neglecting the traditional-the three bowls, chairs, and beds are there for Goldilocks to try. The actions depicted and the elaborate expressions make this book one not to miss. The oversize format makes it easy for a class to see the pictures in complete detail and for small groups to follow along as the teacher reads. This lovely book is bound to be requested again and again. Recommended for schools, public libraries, and bookstores.
