Got me around when I lost my friends

I have used other Rick Steves' guides and my only disappointment with this book is that it doesn't cover the Greek isles.

I was with some friends and we got separated at the Parthenon, but I was OK becuase I had the Rick Steve's book in my bag! I spent the rest of the day alone and had a great time.

I only used this book in Athens. Rick has included his usual helpful general info. I loved his walking tour of the town, showing the big monuments as well as the small, back street, interesting things. I never like his hand-drawn town maps, but I picked up a town map at the hotel and used it in conjunction with the book and had no problems finding my way around on the route Rick suggests. I think it's a great book.

Rick Steves' Guide to Athens and the Peloponnese

My library includes about one dozen Rick Steves guides, so I expected detailed and up to date information regarding attractions, lodging, transportation, and the city of Athens. I was not disappointed. This guide should be useful for the novice as well as the experienced traveler. Indeed, I am using this book to plan a trip to Greece and for practical information for history courses I teach at university. This guide lays out walking tours of the city and its attractions, providing much detail so one is oriented and informed. The maps are also quite useful. Although the book is more than four hundred pages, like other Rick Steves guides its size is quite manageable for stuffing in a backpack. My other guides are marked up and dogeared because I drag them along on my European adventures and I will do the same with this guide of Athens.
