All the good stuff and more

I love Rick Steves' guides and was not disappointed by the Italy book.

He also has audio guides available for download to your mp3 player that are the same as the detailed guides he has for many things like the Coluseum and Vatican in Rome, the Fairi in Venice, and the walking tour of the town of Florence. They have the same information as is in the book, but you can look at the buildings and art and listen to Rick instead of looking at the book. Plan ahead and download those audio tours.

Some of the restaurant recommendations weren't all that great, but they weren't bad, either. I think it is helpful to have a suggestion to be safe, but I am no longer relying on Rick's suggestions only.

Overall, super useful and I loved this book.

    more from this reviewer

    Great Tour Guide

We bought this book for my daughter's 2 month trip to Italy with her college group. The first month they will be traveling with their class, but the second month they are on their own and she has used the Rick Steves books before and found them most helpful, most artistic and most down to earth understandable.

    Excellent Travel guide, as always

This up to date guide book is excellent, as all of Rick Steve's are. I do love his preferred style of travel and have followed it frequently.

Rick Steves Italy beats Lonely Planet

I'm glad I picked up Rick Steves' Italy instead of my tried and true Lonely Planet. I was very pleased with the handy old town maps, hotel recommendations, depth of information regarding bus schedules, how to manage the train schedules. This book has it all for the luxury traveller pick a $$$ hotel, for the budget traveller a $ hotel. History for each town is interesting and helps set the context for my next visit to Italy. The information on hiking Cinque Terre was fabulous. Rick didn't miss a beat!

    Really Informative

It is great for informaiton about Italy and real in depth. We wanted to stay in more expensive hotels and quaint places but we did not find too much of that in this book. Steve showed us the deals which was nice. But we did use the book alot for eating and the map is good enough. It ould be nice for a more detailed map of Italy. But a lot of people used this for thei travel so I tried it. It will get you through Europe. If it was more simple and had more pictures, it would be better. Alot of reading to do here.

Enjoy seeing how the book is researched

I've used Rick Steves' guides before and they have always guided me to the best use of my time and money. I really enjoyed the video which shows how Rick does his research--what a great job!
