Rickey Hendersonby Greg Roensch
Call Rickey Henderson the "Man of Steal." In his 25 seasons as a major leaguer, Henderson was like a superman on the base paths. He set the all-time record for stolen bases midway through his career and has nearly 500 more steals to his credit than the next best player. Whenver he got on base, Henderson made the other team worry about what he would do. That aspect of his game, along with his speed and patience at the plate, made him arguably the game's greatest leadoff hitter. Henderson could be controversial at times, but he was known for his infectious smile, electrifying headfirst slides, and split-second catches. He was a run-producing entertainer who led his teams to victory in many exciting ways.
