I had the pleasure of reading and reviewing the Animalations book, “Rickity and Snickity at the Balloon Fiesta”. This is an adorable story about Rickity and Snickity, two Rocky Mountain “bear cubs that everyone loves”. The cubs hide in the back of the ranger’s truck and hitch a ride to the balloon fiesta, where they ride in a balloon, and are beloved by everyone. The book is beautifully illustrated, and the story is accompanied by very rhythmic music that will have children and adults alike singing along. Just as Rickity and Snickity are the bear cubs that everyone loves, this is a book I am sure everyone will love as well!

    I love this book!

This is a story of two Rocky Mountain bear cubs - Rickity and Snickity - who sneak onto a car heading for the balloon fiesta and Albuquerque, NM. The cubs spend the night in a trash can and then end up piloting balloon so well that they are mistaken for celebrities. Eventually they are caught by the park ranger but intend to come back next year, at which time they will be too big. The music, lyrics, and artwork are all spot-on in this book - it is deliciously unpredictable and encourages critical thinking. Some questions that arise are: do they really make balloons in the shapes of animals? How fast do bear cubs really grow (can they really not come back next year)? For adults - seeing animals ponder over the paper is really funny, and the author put lyrics from the song in the paper for us (and our kids!) to read. I heartily recommend this book.

Rickity and Snickity are Rocky Mountain bear cubs. They sneak off to Albuquerque with park rangers to go to the hot air balloon fiesta. While there, they see many different balloons of all shapes and colors. Rickity and Snickity get a chance to fly in a balloon, and they fly it so well that people thought believe they are celebrities. There was even a story written about Rickity and Snickity in the newspaper. Finally, the rangers catch up with the cubs and take them back home. Rickity and Snickity have hopes to attend the hot air balloon fiesta again next year; but they don’t realize they’ll be too big to go. This is a carefree story with little to no moral meaning; however, the illustrations (especially, the colorful hot air balloons) are vibrant and the Latin-style music makes it fun. Kids will enjoy this bear cub tale.

These two fun-loving cubs get caught up in some fun after stowing away on the park ranger's truck on the way to the balloon fiesta. Rickity and Snickety manage to find their way onto a big balloon going high, high up in the air and become instant celebrities. Enjoy these delightful cubs as they make their way through the Rocky Mountains in this fun read for adventurers everywhere.

If you have ever been to a balloon fiesta, you will love how this book captures the essence of actually being there. The colors used for the balloons – especially the night scene – are perfectly done. The pictures are terrific in every way. The story is about a couple of cubs who desire what every child desires when they see a hot air balloon – they want to ride in one. The song used for this book is in a Spanish style and it introduces children to a different culture. It is fun to listen to the music and the accent of the singer; still the lyrics are in English. When I was a child I loved to listen to Mexican music. There is just something about it that makes you happy. This is an uplifting story about adventure, which my three sons have in abundance.

Done in the typical style of Ms. Derrick, this book is very engaging and I would definitely recommend it. Not just because of all the things I appreciate about her writing style, morals, or all the details she uses, but because this book is just precious and the kids love it. It’s also a great way to introduce the Hispanic culture in a very cute way. Beautiful book.

There’s a lot for kids to love in this Animalations book and in the music that accompanies it. My little cousin really gets into the beat of this particular song. It’s so cute, and it sparks stories about what the actual Albuquerque balloon festival is like. It’s really fun.
