Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble

Ricky Ricotta doesn't like people who bully, even if their victim is a robot. When Dr. Stinky tries to push around a robot (not to mention that he always wants to destroy the world), the good-hearted mouse intervenes and saves the friendly flying machine. Of course, the evil plotter doesn't stop there; he returns with a lizard to regain control of the giant robot. The new edition of this old Dav Pilkey fan favorite contains all-new color illustrations and interactive sections featuring new vocabulary words. A series starter worth recommending.

From the Publisher

Praise for the RICKY RICOTTA'S MIGHTY ROBOT series (original editions, published 2000-2005)

"An adventure story with great appeal . . . With barely more text than a long easy-reader, this title will be a heaven-sent choice for kids with reading difficulties." --SCHOOL LIBRARY JOURNAL

"It's easy to see how Pilkey's high-action, easy-reading chapter novel with a comic book feel would appeal to younger readers. . . . Silly good fun." --KIRKUS

Children's Literature - Carrie Hane Hung
Ricky is a lonely mouse who lives with his parents in the town of Squeakyville. Dr. Stinky McNasty is an evil scientist who is planning to destroy the town. He creates Mighty Robot to help him take over the world. However, as Robot begins to destroy Squeakyville, he sees the terror that he is causing. In response, he refuses to obey Dr. Stinky’s commands. Ricky saves Robot from the evil doctor. A friendship develops between Robot and Ricky, and they save the town from Dr. Stinky’s plans to rule the world. This edition of the popular book has boldly colored illustrations and different features from the original. Some chapters, such as the superhero battles, are in a graphic novel format. Another new feature is the “Flip-o-rama” part of the book. These sections animate some of the action as the superhero fights against the enemy. Directions provide guidance about how to flip the page back and forth to simulate movement of the characters. This book is part of the “Ricky Ricotta’ Mighty Robot” series with superhero action and adventure. Reviewer: Carrie Hane Hung; Ages 6 to 8.

Gr 1–3—Ricky Ricotta is a little guy who is always picked on. That is, until Dr. Stinky McNasty's plot to destroy the city by a giant, evil robot goes awry. The evil robot would rather be Ricky's friend than cause mass destruction. This reboot of the original title of the same name (Scholastic, 2000) includes all-new, full-color illustrations by Santat. Paired with Pilkey's minimal text, these images offer a new generation of readers a fun introduction to chapter books. The story includes Flip-O-Ramas (two-page flip book-style animations) that will make the story truly come alive. There are also several graphic novel-style pages that will attract hesitant readers. Newly independent readers and Pilkey fans alike will not be disappointed by this humorous ride.—Kris Hickey, Columbus Metropolitan Library, OH

    Entertaining reading for kids

My 6 yo son and 8 yo daughter love the series. This book got them started and they're quickly moving through the rest of the series. The text is simple for newer readers but the story is fun and engaging for older kids too. They usually read a book once or twice and then are ready to move on to new books. They like this series so much that they keep re-reading them over and over.

    Great for Young Readers

I bought this book for my very active, sports-oriented 7-year-old son, who likes to read himself to sleep and has outgrown Dr. Seuss. I gave it to him at bedtime one night. By bedtime the next night, he had read it from cover to cover 3 times! And if anyone came over, he'd try to read it to them! I took him to the zoo, and he ignored the baby otter because he was too busy reading! I plan to buy the other Ricky Ricotta books now.

Three books in one - they were funny

I really like Ricky Ricotta books. They are very funny. This was the second time I had read these stories and they were still good! They have a giant robot on the story and there were 3 books in this one volume. I wanted to give the book 10 stars, but I could only give it 5 stars. That's how good it was.

    Proudly reading a chapter book!

These books are a great introduction to chapter books, especially for boys having trouble learning to read. Pilkey is the favorite author of every young boy we know!
