With their easy-to-read language, the Ricky Ricotta books are perfect for beginning readers, but with their action-packed, fun illustrations, they're also great for reading aloud to younger children. Kids will also love the hilarious Flip-O-Rama action scenes and the fun "how-to-draw" pages at the end of the book.
A small mouse and his best friend, a giant flying robot, attempt to save the Earth when an evil Martian monkey and his mechanical creations attack. Includes brief "Flip-o-Rama" section that simulates animation and instructions for drawing six characters.
"An adventure story with great appeal . . . With barely more text than a long easy-reader, this title will be a heaven-sent choice for kids with reading difficulties." --SCHOOL LIBRARY JOURNAL
"It's easy to see how Pilkey's high-action, easy-reading chapter novel with a comic book feel would appeal to younger readers. . . . Silly good fun." --KIRKUS

Great book for trading off reading chapters with a new reader, especially one into super heroes. Action is silly and fun. Bad guys comically evil and the two heroes succeed together with teamwork and friendship. Gimmicks, the page flipping action sequences and the learn- to- draw- the- characters section, are exciting and laugh inducing for a five year old.
On the downside, it may lead to the Captain Underpants series by the same author and many discussions about appropriate times for potty talk. But if one can live with the occasional embarrassing moment, it's all in good fun.

this is the best chapter series for younger kids. although i'm 10 i liked this book quite a bit, but not enough to read it again. my favorite part is when ricky is sent in space to help ricky's mighty robot. Was this review helpful?
