Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble

Ricky Ricotta and his Mighty Robot are sharing a pleasant play day with Ricky's cousin Lucy when an unusually repellant space-monster named Sergeant Stinkbug swipes little Lucy! As Ricky and his mechanical friend attempt to rescue the kidnapped cousin, they find themselves in an extremely sticky situation. (P.S. This favorite from a decade ago reappears now with brand-new, full-color illustrations, mini-comics throughout, and an amusing galactic story that we all still love.

From the Publisher

Praise for the RICKY RICOTTA series

"This reboot . . . offer[s] a new generation of readers a fun introduction to chapter books. . . . Newly independent readers and Pilkey fans alike will not be disappointed by the humorous ride." --SCHOOL LIBRARY JOURNAL

"Aimed at a younger audience than the wildly popular Captain Underpants books, this series . . . has all the classic Pilkey hallmarks: comic book panels, superhero action, and flip-o-rama." --BOOKLIST

Children's Literature - Annie Laura Smith
Smelly stinkbugs from Saturn invade a party with young mouse, Ricky, and his cousin Lucy. Lucy is kidnapped by the stinkbugs and Ricky and his Mighty Robot must save her. Twelve action-oriented chapters cover the adventure. After the stinkbugs kidnap Lucy with the goal of taking over the planet, and the robot is disabled, the mice children have to save their mousedom. Numerous cartoon-like color illustrations supplement the text. This is the sixth book in the “Ricky Ricotta’s Mighty Robot” series, which has been rebooted with illustrations from its original publication a decade ago. The humor, age appropriate language, and numerous illustrations make this a perfect transitional chapter book for beginning and reluctant readers to enjoy. Reviewer: Annie Laura Smith; Ages 6 to 8.

Hooked!--he actually took a 2nd look at this after the 1st time through!

My husband and I love to read but my son does not. At least, he didn't until this series came out. He whipped through all of the Ricky Ricotta series books without complaint. (Well, he did complain when he found out that the next book in the series wasn't due out for a few more months!) For me, the real clincher was when he picked up the books to look at them a a second or third time. I'd NEVER seen him do that before! The books are very similar to each other in plot but he didn't seem to mind. Bottom line, if you're a mother who doesn't enjoy handing your children books about underpants or excrement, you might try this series instead.
