The Ride Of A Lifetime

Foreword by Dave Letterman

"The Ride of a Lifetime is a smart, tough-as-nails guide to business success that every entrepreneur should read."
International Lifestyle Magazine (2009)

If you think ripping down the highway on a badass custom chopper is the ultimate thrill ride, try running your own business. Bikers and entrepreneurs share at least one trait—they do it their way, without compromise.

The Ride of a Lifetime takes you inside the head of Paul Teutul, Sr., and shows you how he runs the world's most famous bike-building business, Orange County Choppers. If you only know Paul from American Chopper, you don't know the values upon which he built the business, the risks he took to get there, or how he manages the ups and downs of life as an entrepreneur.

The Ride of a Lifetime takes you beyond the television show to reveal the real nuts and bolts of running a successful business. Teutul is loud, brash, and in your face. But he's got the kind of real-world business insight you can't get from a seminar or an MBA. So put on your boots and tighten up your chinstrap, because building a business isn't some joyride—but it IS The Ride of a Lifetime.

Excellent Place to Mine For Gold

I gave a similar review to Mike Krzyzewski's book - The Gold Standard: Building a World-Class Team. As a corporate director of human resources, I am continually looking at various books for business and leadership advice. More often than not, I find the real gold nuggets embedded not in management books but tomes covering a wide array of genres. For me, this is one of those books. Most management books are simply repackaged repeats of the same drivel so we must look outside of own arena.

Teutrul has built a company that has a tremendous amount of passion and creativity. I believe there are lessons to be learned from this enterprise. From this book, I was able to find golden nuggets in the following topics:

    . Work Hard
. Demand Hard Work from Others
    . Embracing Creativity
    . Team Member Roles
    . Team Support
    . Using Conflict Positively

If a person can forge an entire group of eccentrics into a highly successful, cohesive team, then I am willing to listen and hopefully learn.

For those who like relating bikes to business, I would suggest reading Zen and the art.
