Take the long way home...

Full of big dreams of the fast life, Tallie Beck hit the road at the age of seventeen to become a rock ’n roll star—and vowed never to look back. Now, at thirty-four, she’s little more than a down-and-out singer who smokes and drinks too much and knows better than to make promises she can’t keep. Dumped by her latest band and low on cash, Tallie has no choice but to go back to Denver. Back to her crazy mother, and her resentful younger sister, Jane, who’s never forgiven her for leaving.

But seeing her family again after all these years stirs something unexpected in Tallie. And after so many miles on that long, exhilarating, scary—and often lonely—road, she’s looking back to trace some wrong turns, and figure out the way to where she really wants to go...

    I Also Recommend:

Jennie Shortridge definately know how to capture her readers attention!

Jennie truly pulls you into her world of writing. She has a way with topic and words that bring you there as if you're the one living it all.
She writes to the individuals soul, getting to the heart of the matters on topics such as; dementia, alcoholism, homelessness, love lost and gained, family dynamics. This is no self help book. Just a story with the truth behind lifes little hicups.
The characters are real. the moods, the settings, the detail. Captivating!
I have truly devoured her works. and if you begin reading you best have another of her novels on hand to pick after.
When She Flew and Eatting Heaven are mesmerizing!

    Riding with the Queen

This is a great story for discussion, full of family relationships and dysfunctions, normal and not so normal problems, and just fun fun fun. We had a blast with this one. Plus, there's a reader's guide in the back, it's a paperback, and the author has a great web site.Check out the music!

    Fantastic thoughtful first novel !

I truly enjoyed this novel , the first by the author . Well paced heartwarming story of one gal's hardknock life , and her road to recovery . Substance abuse and bi-polar issues are studied in the main characters too. An education for the reader without being preachy about it. I am anxious for the next novel by this fine author.

    Great Read!

I couldn't put this book down. The author holds your attention from beginning to end. Instead of a fairytale, the author portrays everyday life. It is an awesome read and I would recommend it to anyone. Read it for yourself.

    Riding with the Queen

I loved this book. Tallie Beck might be one screwed up rock singer, but with the help of Big Gal Sal, her blues queen guardian angel, she goes home, faces her past, learns to live with her crazy mother, and . . . there's so much more! A rich and complex story that is funny and satisfying, and is over way too fast.

    Riding with the Queen

A sassy, sexy, and satisfying read, this book tells the story of a down on her luck singer who must go home and face her past. Sure, it sounds like a story you've heard before, but it's a fresh, funny, and profound take that will leave you wishing it would never end.
