Overview

New York Times number-one bestselling author Debbie Ford presents revolutionary questions that, when answered with complete honesty, change the way we see ourselves and make decisions - ultimately moving us toward the life we desire.

The realities of the life we live today are a result of the choices we made yesterday, three months ago and three years ago. But we don′t wind up $50,000 dollars in debt because of one extravagant purchase. Nor do we put on 30 unwanted pounds as a result of a couple of decadent meals. And our relationships certainly don′t fall apart overnight because of one decision. We are where we are because of repeated unconscious choices made day after day. If we want to understand why and how we created our present day reality, all we need to do is look at the choices we made in the past. Ford cuts right through our denial with the 10 questions that immediately reveal the true motivations behind our thoughts and actions. But more than that, by rigorously and honestly asking and answering these 10 vital questions, we regain control and have the power necessary to create the life we always wanted.

Publishers Weekly
A workshop leader and author of several bestselling advice books, Ford (The Dark Side of the Light Chasers) offers another path toward a better life. According to Ford, it is the unconscious choices we make that prevent us from achieving future goals and dreams. For example, someone who truly wants to lose 20 pounds may choose to eat a high-fat, fast-food dinner because he or she has a hidden commitment to the comfort such food will bring; a hardworking woman who has always dreamed of buying a home sabotages herself by getting into credit card debt by an unconscious commitment to rewarding herself immediately with expensive purchases. The author contends that it is possible to identify such self-defeating commitments by asking 10 questions that will turn unconscious choices into beneficial conscious decisions. Choosing to overeat or overspend can be avoided by asking, is this an act of self-love or self-sabotage? According to Ford, asking the questions she recommends-including "am I choosing from my divinity or my humanity?"-will lead questioners to behave more positively toward themselves and to others. Although somewhat contrived, this guide is certainly not harmful and may be of use to readers who enjoy following roadmaps to happiness. (Apr.) Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.

Wonder why you're not getting where you want to go in life?

Take three hours out of your too busy life and read this book.

I've been struggling for months now wondering why I can never seem to find the time for the things I claim are the most important to me. Debbie Ford let me in on a little secret: I have unconscious priorities that are sabotaging my conscious ones. These unconscious priorities are guiding the choices I make on a daily basis, keeping me stuck in a place I don't want to be (but can't seem to move out of.)

If you're tired of going around in circles and want the keys that will help you move past where you are to the place you really want to be in life, read this book. It can be a bit overwhelming to apply at first, but asking yourself The Right Questions before deciding whether to buy another pair of shoes, or eat a cheeseburger, or go to the gym will put you on the path toward your dreams.

You should also know that I read Debbie Ford's book 'Dark Side of the Light Chasers' and thought 'so what?' But the PW review for this book intrigued me enough to give her another chance (thank goodness.)

    Very Smart Book

Debbie Ford outlines the questions, that if we answer honestly, will give us great insight and direction in our lives. Along with 'the questions', Ford provides enjoyable stories and examples that makes her points very clear. Her main thesis is powerful - if we want to change our lives, we just need to make different choices. This book provides the questions that provide thoughtful guidance to these choices. I have recommended this book to all my family.

    The Right Book!!!

As a coach, I am always looking for new books on self awareness and transformation. This book is one of the best I have ever had the pleasure of reading. There were so many instances where I went 'Aha!' in realization of the things that I do (or don't do) and why. I have passed this book on to a few people now and everyone has the same experience. My husband (also a coach) and I have typed out the 10 questions and carry them in our wallets - just to remind us of what is important and why.

    What a breakthrough book!

You have to buy this book if you have any desire at all to live a great life! The concept of my life being the result of all the little choices I've made AND THAT I CAN CHANGE IT with the daily choices I make was so empowering! I'm already seeing results and it's so easy. Debbie Ford guides you through a process of clarifying your goal and then staying present to it every day with a vision map and each choice you make. The questions effortlessly kept me on track along the way and helped me overcome my old patterns that had kept me stuck. Gratefully, I have no more use for my excuses and my 'default map'! I thoroughly recommend this book.
