I had the opportunity to review the Animalations book, Riley the Rhinoceros. As the Assistant Director of a daycare facility, I am always looking for new books that can capture children’s attention, keeping them engaged and entertained, and this book is definitely it. The book is beautifully illustrated and the story line is very entertaining, but what makes this book (as well as all the books in the series) stand apart from the rest, is the music that tells the story. The music is energetic and encourages children to sing along, all while the story is being told. I can’t see children sitting still while this book is being read! The book is made for singing and dancing!
The book is about Riley the Rhinoceros, of course, and how the animals want to ride on his back and treat him as their bus, but as Riley exclaims throughout the book, “That would be preposterous!” The book is wonderful, the song is catchy and entertaining, and the concept of combining reading with music is a wonderful way to introduce reading to children. I loved it!

Riley the Rhinoceros is the jungle bus for all the animals he lives amongst in the jungle. He’s starting to get really irritated with all of them, for it seems they want just one thing from him: a ride! He’s got a real soft spot for all of the baby animals in the jungle so he makes it a point to always give them rides. The older animals, however, seem to take Riley’s generosity for granted; they jump on his back for a ride anytime they feel like it! Eleanor the Elephant, an animal far too big for even a rhino to transport, comes along one day and approaches Riley. He immediately tells her he can’t help her. Little does Riley know that Eleanor isn’t looking for a ride. Instead, she just wants to be by Riley’s side! A humorous, meaningful story sure to delight its children readersWas this review helpful? Preposterously Fun Rhinoceros-Bus Book!
The rhyming text and colorful illustrations in this book will captivate beginning readers. Children will “giggle” out loud as Riley encounters many jungle animals, who want him to be their Rhinoceros bus. Riley, however, finds most of the animal requests to be “pre pos ter ous,” except for the baby animals who need help finding their way home.
This is a fun story with a great message that encourages kids to be more thoughtful and independent. I highly recommend it for your pre-school and early school aged children.

Riley the Rhinoceros is a great tale that teaches children about helping and also finding balance when helping others. Riley is the jungle bus; however, he can’t possibly give rides to every animal in the jungle. He wants to help, but he finds himself overwhelmed at times. The clever placing of words along with the repetitiveness of the word ‘preposterous’ will leave children wondering what the word means, and open up the lines of communication between children and parents to discuss vocabulary. At the end of the story, Riley meets Eleanor the Elephant and he explains to her (before she asks) that he cannot give her a ride. To his surprise, Eleanor lets Riley know that she doesn’t want a ride. She just wants to walk by his side. This is a nice story with catchy music and good use of words. Was this review helpful? Riley is quite the popular Jungle Bus, no matter how reluctant he is to have his passengers. He calls the whole thing “preposterous”, but gives all the animals in the jungle rides anyway. This easy sing-along is sure to delight your young animal lover, who won't hesitate to participate in this sing-along. A fun delight for readers young and old.Was this review helpful? Riley is trying to be nice and helpful to the baby animals by giving them rides through the jungle. But as is true to life, when he tries to be nice, others try to take advantage of him. From Leopold the Leopard to Piney the Python, Riley shows great courage and a strong sense of himself as he tells the adults, who try to get rides, that he will not do it because that is ‘preposterous’. As a mother of three and a first-time grandmother, I love that this book teaches, in such a wonderful way, that being taken advantage of is not acceptable. It’s hard to stand up for yourself so I love that there is a book that addresses the situation.
This is a terrific book and the pictures are beautiful. The song is really catchy – we’ve been singing it all day. I could probably recite it right now;)

My little cousin loves Riley the Rhinoceros. The book and video are filled with classic illustrations that kids really like. Riley’s story is straightforward and fun, and with the extra music and videos that go along with the book, kids really engage with the story. It’s pure entertainment for kids, with a happy ending and a positive message. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
