Meet the Author

A hopeless romantic and serious chocoholic, Harley Brooks creates edgy, romantic tales filled with emotionally-charged characters who can't seem to get out of their own way. She untangles superheroes from their capes. Inspired by memories of a time when passion ruled common sense, her stories revolve around all the "first times" youth experience while morphing into adults. If Brooks isn't writing or reading, she's playing with her muse while exploring scenic byways on her Harley Davidson.

    4.5 stars
A wonderful story of young love, letting go, and learning to trust.

From Riley’s lust filled and humorous teen thoughts to his rocky and sometimes volatile relationship with his older brother Jax, the protagonist in this story came to life on every page. His struggles to find his place within his family and the tangled relationships with his peers brought me back to life as a teen in vivid clarity. I liked the multiple points of view in this story and each was distinct and as unique as the individual characters. Taylor’s experiences were especially poignant. I felt her every painful emotion, drawing me ever deeper into the unfolding drama that had me turning the pages late into the night wanting to know how it would all turn out. The writing was exceptional and Miss Brooks has found the perfect balance of witty and realistic dialogue as well as vivid description and a narrative style that puts the reader into the story right alongside the characters. Although this is categorized as young adult, readers of all ages will enjoy this deeply moving love story.

I loved the alternating points of view, especially Riley's. Fun

I loved the alternating points of view, especially Riley's. Fun to see a teenage boy's take on romance. Brooks did a great job of creating believable and relatable characters. The dark scene made me cry with the heroine. Story tugged all my emotions. Great read. Hope there's more coming.

Riley's Pond is an excellent read from a new Young Adult author.

Riley's Pond is an excellent read from a new Young Adult author. One trip to this secluded swimming hole will definitely NOT be enough. The author takes you inside the realm of "coming of age" with a vividness and depth that captures your heart from page one.
