If you have seen the movie then you know the story. For those who have not, it is an interesting tale. Blu is a male blue Spix's Macaw who does not fly and lives in Minnesota. He is the last of his kind except for a female who lives in a bird sanctuary in Rio de Janero. His owner decides to take him there in the hope that he and Jewel will mate and keep the species going. There are all sorts of adventures as Jewel and Blu are captured by a bird thief, helped by a variety of friends and eventually decide that Rio will indeed become their new home. The story is populated with stills from the movie. This story, adapted from the motion picture screenplay by Todd R. Jones and Earl Richey Jones, should appeal to fans. It is a level 2 book in the "I Can Read!" series which is described as reading with help using books that provide engaging stories, longer sentences, and language play for developing readers. The opening note to parents gives more information about the series and tips for shared reading. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
